Default Heater/AC fan only works on high speed

The heater/AC blower on my wifes 99 CRV only works on the highest speed. This brings to mind 2 questions.#1:I have had the typical 1st gen.problem of water leaking in to the passenger side floor. The area where the water comes in,is also where the blower is located.Any connection there?#2:How difficult a job to replace the blower unit?Any help or suggestions appreciated.

Since the blower motor works, I'd think it's more likely the switch isn't working.

In my experience it's usually the blower motor resistor. When those things go bad it usually defaults to the high setting. I'm not sure where they are located on the V, but usually on the heater box housing. if you have a leak in that area, it may have corroded the coils inside the resistor. Check a parts breakdown of the heater system to find it. Raccon, you got that diagram?

You may have a blocked AC drain line causing the overflow to enter the pass. side.

Just do the 'fix' where you remove the lower windshield cowl and put the foam tape where Honda 'missed the mark' . .

The motor unplugs, remove three screws, it's out in 60 seconds. I used high-pressure air to blow the carbon dust out of the motor's guts while it was out. I also brushed in between the fins to dust them clean too.

I am with Bob, it is most likley the switch. Since ti is digital, I doubt there are resistors in the motor. The dial has infinite (not really infinite, but alot more than half dozen) number of positions. This is not the old style 4-5 setting switch. Each click is digitized into a voltage sent to the motor. I am not an expert, but I would assume that is the way it was designed.

Thanks to all for your replies.Curly,I should have been more specific.I'm aware of the leaking problem in the 1st gens.I only brought it up thinking that the water leaking in may have done some damage to the fan motor over the years.Bryfry, forgive my ignorance but, which of the parts in the diagram that Racoon provided is the resistor?Racoon, where did that diagram come from?I have the shop cd and there is nothing like it on there to my knowledge.
The shop cd guides you through a self-diagnosis you can do for the heater motor. It gets way over my head after the initial test but,I got through it far enough to know that I don't have a problem with the motor itself.Bryfry, even though the self-diagnosis is telling me the motor is OK,the resistor you're telling me about could still be bad...right?Is this resistor as easy to replace as removing the motor?
Thanks,Mike

It's from the Parts Manual that San Leandro Honda has put online.

If it's been getting wet in there, #6, the transistor pack is probably rusted / corroded. Bear in mind that there's a high-speed 'switch' in the Gen 1 heater control that clicks when you go all the way clockwise. You can feel / hear it 'click'. That's bypassing the transistor pack or you'd be getting no breeze at all.

There's a schematic called 'Air Conditioning Circuits' that shows everything but the insides of the heater control. Remove the glove box door, then drop the fan out the bottom (three screws) and you can get the TRANSISTOR pack out and you'll see it's burnt open / corroded a connector off.
