Synthetic oil on your 2012 CR-V

Have any of you put synthetic oil in your 2012 CR-V yet?

Now that the 2012 have all the bell and whistles of Avg MPG, it is easier to judge and gauge synthetic vs regular oil. My 2003 CR-V have none of this.

I cant do it until 20K later because I still have 20 quarts of regular oil left.

If you see any difference say like 2-3 gain in MPG, it might be worth it considering gasoline is going up & up.

Modern engines are designed for fully synthetic engine oil and it's good for 6-12K miles (18K on commercial and French vehicles) depending on your climate and driving habits.

Nothing to do with MPG.

You dont gain any MPG (1-2 miles least?) using synthetic oil?

If a certain type of oil would cause enough extra friction to be translated into noticeable mpg, it's a bad oil, really bad and it would file the cylinders thin in no time. The most economic cars I have ever driven have been running on dino oil. Such as my old carburetted (!) Escort from 1989, which got over 40 mpg no matter how I drove it. I just recently swapped cars with my mom, got the Corolla for myself as a backup and gave her my Civic. The Corolla gets constant 39 mpg and is as tight as a man's anus after the 155K miles on the clock. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't gain any mpg with synthetic oil. Again, I live in climate where dino oil is only used in old models. Anything from the past 15 years have synthetic elusively because of extremely cold starts in winter.

With modern engines the real gain would come from extended service intervals and the longevity of the engine. The synthetic oil does not turn into black mud even if you exceed the service interval significantly, it just gets thinner.

The 2011 came with 0W20--synthetic oil---the 2012 no longer does???

I have ask a few other folks somewhere. You dont gain any mileage at all.

Synthetic is good for longer oil change and for heavy load on your engine.

I will just go with dino oil.

On the oil cap of the 2012 CR-V it says to use 0W20 oil only. My 2011 Odyssey does too so I just buy the 0W20 oil from Honda.

Agreed.

More like the synthetic oil changes with their higher costs give our brain the thought that we can go longer between oil changes and then we don't.
