Default VSA OFF button

Hi, everyone.

I was wondering if anyone with a 2006 CR-V might be able to answer a question for me.

I have an '06 CR-V EX, and I am the original owner.

I took the car to a car-stereo-installation shop today to have the XM tuner replaced.

In the process, the technician asked me if he could position the external XM antenna on the roof at the front of the car, just above the center of the windshield. (The old XM antenna was on the back of the roof, just above the rear window.) The advantage, he said, was that he wouldn't have to run the wire the length of the car because it was a much shorter distance to the XM tuner from the front. Made sense to me. I asked him if there were any disadvantage to putting it in the front, specifically whether automated car washes would be a problem. He said they would be no more of a concern than they were with the antenna positioned at the back of the roof. I had never had a problem with my XM reception or the antenna despite having gone through many, many automated car washes, so I said to go ahead and put it on the front.

By the time he finished the work, it was dark, so I needed to use the lights. I noticed that the VSA OFF/CRUISE button was dark, which was unusual, as I never turn VSA or CRUISE off, so I pressed it. The CRUISE portion of the button then illuminated, indicating that cruise control was enabled, but the words VSA OFF remained nonilluminated.

I pressed the button again, and the word CRUISE went dark, and then the triangular-icon warning light on the dashboard came on, indicating that VSA had been turned off as well. But the words VSA OFF remained nonilluminated. So I pressed it again to turn CRUISE and VSA back on, and the word CRUISE illuminated again, but VSA OFF stayed dark.

The technician said he hadn't done anything with the dashboard lights in that area, as I thought he might have, given how close it was to the area where he must have routed the wire from the antenna to get to the XM tuner.

And the illumination on the buttons for the moon roof, which are just to the left of the VSA OFF/CRUISE button, worked fine.

I checked the owner's manual, which does describe the VSA OFF function on page 170 but doesn't say whether the words VSA OFF should ever be illuminated. And I can't recall if they were prior to my bringing it to the installation shop today, because I never touched that button (I always wanted VSA and CRUISE to be on).

Does anyone with an '06 CR-V know if the words VSA OFF should be illuminated when the VSA and CRUISE are off? I will call a Honda dealership or two tomorrow just to check, but I get the feeling this is one of those things that a dealer isn't going to be able to answer, given that there probably aren't many 2006 CR-Vs on the dealer's lot. Maybe I am worried about nothing.

Thanks if anyone can provide any assistance!

Normally, the button is only lit when the exterior lights are on. When you press VSA OFF button, the corresponding icon on the dashboard lights up, indicating that VSA if OFF.

Perhaps, you should check with the OWNER's MANUAL for the answers.

Thanks, Dave. I did that, as noted above. It doesn't cover whether the words VSA OFF are ever supposed to be illuminated.

I'm going to stop in at my dealership over the weekend to ask about it.

Why wouldn't the "tech" have used the existing cable and antenna?

He had to replace them because the existing wires had been cut by a previous installer and then taped up in order to work again. That cutting, yesterday's tech told me, interfered with the reception and could have been one of the causes of the problem (which was that the head unit wasn't recognizing the XM tuner any longer).
