I recently bought a second hand year 2000 HR-V which came with a Pioneer DEH P3100 CD/radio. I cannot get the damned thing out and suspect it's held by bolts on the side. Does anybody know if this is factory fitted / how to get it out? Also, I've read elsewhere on this forum that there is already wiring to the 2 rear speaker holes. Is this correct? I can't see them... The car was bought in Austria if that's relevant and is the 105BHP non-VTEC version |

To see how to get to the CD/Tuner unit, check out this link - http://www.hondasuv.com/mdx/viewtopic.php?t=35 - it is about how to install a Sat-Nav but first deals with how to get an original unit out first.
For Rear Speaker fitment, see here - http://www.hondasuv.com/forum_mdx/viewtopic.php?t=97

Thanks for reply. The Sat Nav link is great.
I'm pretty sure that there is no wiring to rear speaker holes. There's a loose black cable with foam attached but this seems to run elsewhere. I've given it a pull but don't want to be too heavy handed Also, the slot is 4x6 (not 10cm as referred to in link). Maybe it's a slightly different spec over here? It's frustrating as I have everything ready to set-up my Ipod - except the ability to install it! |

well, most people who looked hard enough (including me) eventually found it!
it does take a while diggng around and is VERY WELL stuck down (so it does sounds like you have found it) so maybe yours is stuck down where it isn't visable so well? I would suggest you pull the grille up (easy job) and use a torch to see what is down there. When you do find it, I would try something like pushing away with an old credit card as that won't damage any wiring but should dislodge it after a while (guessing but seems logical I wouln't discount there being no wires there, but I think it unlikely Honda would do something different in one single country. Good Luck

I had to take the car apart to get to them.
My cables were taped back to the loom just over the back wheel arch. getting to them required the partial removal of the rear interior side panels. this took about 30 mins in total. They were already connected to the radio, and already had signal on them. I have no idea why honda dont install some rear speakers at the factory, especially as all else is there. |

JBL GTO 525 in the rear. JBL GTO 625e in the front.
The 525's were about 35 quid and the 625's were about a tenner more. I reckon they sound ok for the price, even twice the price, not that my opinion counts fr much..... They can take quite a bit from the amp, but Ideally you'll need a sub. |

Found the wires (taped back over the loom) and managed to get the stereo out. Most productive Sunday ever. Thanks for all advice.
