Default Oil Change Reminder Light

My wife drives a 2007 CRV, she loves it. When the oil change reminder light came on we took the car into our mechanic who is ASCE certified for the oil change. This cost $30.00 or so.

They could not get the light to go out following the directions in the owners manual.

We had to take it to Honda to get it to go out. They charged about $150.00 for changing the oil again with 15 miles on it. The car has 22,000 miles on it. They did check the fluid levels and all the lights.

Does anyone know how to get the oil change reminder light off, it has come on again.

Thanks

Sounds like you're talking about the light that looks like the little wrench in the upper right of the instrument panel? That's the Maintenance Minder.

I could say check the manual, but we'll just cut to the chase, this is what you'll find...

Quote:
Turn the ignition switch to the ON (II) position.

Press the select/reset knob repeatedly until the engine oil life is displayed.

Press the select/reset knob for about 10 seconds. The information display shows the reset mode initial display as shown.

Select the ‘‘OIL LIFE’’ indicator by turning the select/reset knob. The display begins to blink. Push the same knob to enter this setting.

The engine oil life and the maintenance item code(s) will begin to blink. Push the select/reset knob to reset.

The maintenance item code(s) will disappear, and the engine oil life will reset to ‘‘100.’’
However, since the independent mechanic and the Honda place probably both did the reset, it sounds like a trip back to the dealership for your V....

If by chance you're talking about the little oilcan looking light in the lower left, that's the low engine oil pressure warning light. Thus sayeth ye olde manual...

Quote:
This indicator should never come on when the engine is running. If it starts flashing or stays on, the oil pressure has dropped very low or lost pressure. Serious engine damage is possible, and you should take immediate action.

Thanks Karl. I'll give this a shot tomorrow. I've already changed the oil, but now i'm at 5900 and it shows 15% left. I tried resetting per the manual, but i couldn't do it either. I have to recheck the manual, because your instructions seem to have an additional step.
Of course i am totally confused now.

The instructions in the manual do work - they are just not as clear as they possibly could be... Keep trying it until you get the knack.

I agree. It sounds like another trip to the dealer is needed to recoup the $150 or at least the portion that was charge for the unnecessary oil change. I would be looking for a different Honda dealer to work with in the future.

I found out the procedure, as documented, isn't quite accurate. You have to press and HOLD the button in the last step until it resets to 100%.

He did say that they checked the fluids and lights.:-)
Me thinks that dealer is dishonest. I would contact Honda corporate, if in fact that's all they did. Unless a qt. Of oil is $25 now?

Thanks SparkyDave,

I will try your directions and hold the button till 100% shows up. This dealer is close to my home, not the one we purchased the car from.

The work sheet said things like, checked tire pressure, checked fluid levels, etc.

This is the only thing I did not like about the CRV other than the cheap OEM tires that come with it, now have Michelin Latitudes.

After I change the oil, I sit behind the wheel holding the owners' manual in one hand and doing each step with the other. Even then it will often take a couple tries to get it.
