The contact switches in the door frame that turn on the dome lights sometimes stick, so that when you open the door the light doesn't come on. If some doors cause the light to come on, but other doors don't, then check the switches on the doors that don't work.
The rear tailgate is a different type of switch, but it can have alignment problems that the light stays on when the door is closed. There have been several discussions about both issues.

There's only one picture, and it's off the little "L" shaped switch that sticks out from the door frame.

so the light "switch" is on the left latch or the centre latch?

I'm pretty sure it's the center, but it's easy to test.
Open the tailgate glass. Confirm that the light is on. Press in on the switch on the top left of the lower tailgate. Is the light on?

put it back together to start trouble shooting....it was fine!? So I took out my new custom upper c-pillar bar, sanded it down and clear coated it.
