Issues and complaints! What's wrong with my CR-V? So, this is brand new model year and issues are bound to be present. Post what you are experiencing here and how the dealer resolved them!

Default 2007 CRV needs a new engine!

So...this all started with a maintain code of P0341 (cam position sensor). I ordered the parts and waited for it to come in (3-5 days). I continued to drive the car in the mean time, because I had to get to work and we only have one car (live in Chicago). Then, the day before the sensor is supposed to be installed...the car dies. We have it towed to a mechanic down the street from our house. He replaces two sensors and then calls me and says the car is running but its running hard and now showing code P1009. We then have it towed to a Honda dealer. They tell me that it needs a new engine and it will be $1K to take apart the engine to tell me exactly what is wrong. They can tell me there is head damage and no compression in cyl 3.

The car is at 65K miles (5K over warranty). Honda customer service is not helping due to the economy. They told me that sales are down 50% and Honda would have fixed it a year ago but now their hands are tied.

I have a friend that works at a different Honda dealer and he said they have seen a couple CR-Vs come in with the same trouble in the last week. It was tension on the chain...caused the timing chain to blow.

I am just really confused...I still owe 16K on the car. I am not good with cars at all (yes, I am a woman) , so this is all very foreign to me.

Any thoughts, or suggestions??? I need all the help I can get.

Something isn't right when Honda Corporate or Customer Service literally tells you their hands are tied. Are they trying to ruin their customer loyalty index?

I'd say get all your documentation in order and call Honda Corporate and get a case number on your problem. If this problem is happening in more than one third generation CR-V, they know there is a problem.

Don't give up on this matter. You have 16,000 reasons to fight to get your CR-V fixed.

I have a claim # and I have spoken with my regional rep. He is being very tight lipped about the whole thing. He won't speak a word, I think he is afraid to say anything or maybe his hands are tied and there is really nothing he can do. He said I need to work with the dealership by paying the $1K to take apart the car and find out what actually happened.

I am really upset over this, so I apperciate the encouraging words. I had a '03 Civic before this and never any problems.

Also...the Honda mechanic told me that they don't make them like they used to...Great!!

This sounds a bit ridiculous.

Engine failure so early? I'd look for a 2nd opinion.

To be honest, the dealer should be willing to fork out the money or make good on the understanding that they'll be doing a diagnostic tear down to figure out what failed, and then taking that information to Honda.

the K24 is a pretty solid engine (the bottom ends have been known to hold 400hp before failing).

What might kill your case is that you took it to an independent mechanic prior to taking it to Honda.

I'm also surprised the Honda dealer let you drive it around with a faulty cam position sensor.

This may help her case but I can't tell from the first post who did the original diagnostic and parts ordering. Was she dealing with an independent then as well who didn't know enough to stop her from driving it or were warnings not to drive ignored?

I did call Honda to get a quote on labor & parts...never did anyone mention not to drive the car. (only drove it for 5 days if that matters) The parts guy didn't even know what the cam sensor was...so I just called another Honda. I probably called 2-3 Honda dealers that first day looking for a good appointment time. No one ever said anything to me.

Honda is not willing to help. I tried to escalate the issue within Honda Corp and they told me that I have to work with the regional rep or the dealer...no one will overstep them...even management.

Now, I just need to decide if I trade it in for the loss (probably at least $10K at the min) or do I let Honda repo the car (ruin my perfect credit) and try to fight the case and hope for a recall or something.

So upsetting...I loved Honda and my CRV. I would buy the same car all over again...but after the customer service I can't bring myself to get another Honda.

The cam sensor should not go bad in such a new car...that is just wrong!

I am really surprized that Honda does not want to do anything with 5,000 outside of powertrain warranty.

I am not sure if the 2007 falls under the class action odometer suit. the 10% error in the suit would bring you within the powertrain warranty (60,000 +10% = 66,000 miles).

Another possibility is that Honda does not want to authorize the repair until they know for sure what went wrong, which will be found during the $1000 teardown. They may then opt to pay half, or all of the repair.

I am just curious whether the vehicle was in "limp mode" when the check engine went on.

Regardless of anyone saying not to drive the car, the Owner's Manual is pretty clear about not driving with the Check Engine light on.

The P1009 can be as simple as VTEC solenoid failure, which is a $500 repar.

x2 to all of that.

The K24 is very solid, and can handle power and high mileage (well over 200K).

This is the first I have ever heard on this forum of an engine failing. I would continue pursuing Honda corporate.

While you shouldn't have driven with the check engine light on, I don't think there is anything that you can do at this point. Just be glad you aren't driving a GM or a Chrysler, they certainly wouldn't do anything for you!

This is very odd....
