I have a 1999 CR-V EX, which is mechanically identical to your 2000. I've done a lot of highway driving on long trips (Indy to Key West, Nashville to OBX to Key West, Nashville to Bar Harbor Maine, and others).
My solution is to stop every 3-4 hours for fuel and to stretch my legs, and I turn the volume up on the radio. And, if you add some sort of sound absorption padding to the hood you'll still hear the engine through the firewall. And it won't do anything for the wheel/tire noise. If it were a problem for me I'd look at adding Dynamat or something similar to the interior to deaden all exterior noise.

I think member "k24 rd6" has some sound deadening in his engine bay. Maybe he will chime in.

I dynamatted my interior, but didn't do the firewall as I didn't want to get involved with removing the entire dash.
Noise levels are lower, but since Dynamat (I used Extreme) is a vibration reducer, not a noise blocker, I think a two-pronged approach is needed -- Dynamat to stiffen the body/door panels, plus a noise padding on the floor. Chip H. |

Try Hoodliner by Dynamat. It's made specifically for use under the hood. Also putting Dynamat on the firewall will help, but will require removal of the dash.

The hoodpad/liner should reduce the noise coming through the firewall. The issue is that you have the noise reflecting off of the hood, much like a big "speaker." The experience from a lot of ther boards with everything from diesel pickups to civics has been that the hood pad does wonder.
We'll see if the dynamat folks make anything.

You could try JC Whitney. They sell sound insulation and hood insulation. http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/S...sku=hood+liner

The Dynamat xtreme is good for 300 degrees F which by itself which would do the trick. Unfortunately, what I have seen of Dynamat is that it's fairly expensive and, well, I'm a cheap skate. Perhaps I can find a remnant out on ebay or something. NOW...they also have a hoodliner that I guess you cut to size...it's $110 bucks and is reflective. I am not big on the reflective deal. It doesn't sound like a great idea.

You also need to look at where you live. Summer temperatures in Phoenix plus a hot engine could mean that the adhesive lets go and the hoodliner falls on top of the motor.
BTW, The Dynamat Extreme is worth the money. Chip H. |

Get a headunit with active noise cancelling feature. Honda Oddyssey is one source.
