Ok, now that I have that out of the way, on with the DIY. This is the thread where all of the research was done, http://hondasuv.com/members/showthread.php?t=38748 Special thanks to cderalow and B20B for all of their help. It got a little heated at times trying to figure this out, but thank you for your help!! This is an amazingly EASY install if you use an OEM Civic unit like I did. The Civic unit is identical to the CRV unit in size and functional design. The Civic unit has a slight hint of a bronze face, but if my wife did not notice the difference, nobody else will..... The Civic unit w/out premium sound has a built in amplifier, where the CRV nav unit does not. Honda used an external amp to power the premium sound system that was included in the Nav package. Just to clarify, Civic non premium sound nav = built in amp CRV nav, no matter what kind = no built in amp What this means, is if you use a unit without a built in amp, you will need an external amplifier, hooked to your speakers, powered by the pre-out signal from the Nav. If you use a unit from the Non-premium sound Civic like I did, it is plug and play. Here we go, I acquired a Civic non-premium sound unit from my buddy who works for Alpine, the company that makes the OEM units for Honda. How much you ask? I have to hang an LCD TV in his living room for him, so basically a few hours of time.... After a several disagreements and some deleted posts (sorry mods) we figured out what was needed to power this thing up. First I removed my old deck, and installed the brackets from it onto the nav unit. I then purchased a trim piece from Honda for the new Nav unit. Coast was about $25. ![]() ![]() What you need to do is basically just plug 17p into the back of your new Civic nav, and pull a power and a ground from the 17p plug and tap it into the 12p plug. 22p is for your steering wheel controls, which I have not finished yet, I am having a hard time sourcing a plug. Stay tuned for an update, I will find one eventually. There was a discussion about the back up light wire on 12p, this is not needed unless you plan on installing a rear camera. ![]() Here are the drawings I used. (thank you cderalow) Tap into A9 and A17 for your 12v+ and your ground. Run those to 12p to wires 1 and 4. This is what my harness looks like. Forgive some of the butt connectors, I had to do some exploretive surgeory in my harness to get this to work.... In my truck, on 17p the yellow is the 12v+ and the black in the ground. On my 12p plug, I had a hosh-posh of wires. This was a test plug he had at the shop for testing, so non of the wire colors where correct. BASE WIRE POSITIONS ON THE PLUG LOCATION, NOT THE COLOR. 17p ![]() 12p ![]() After getting everything hooked up, MY nav unit went into a diagnostic mode which I had to manually go in, and tell it to stop. The screen will look like this. ![]() At this point you need to press MAP, MENU and CANCEL at the same time until it goes to a screen witha menu for several different options. On that screen just hold in MAP for 5 seconds, you will get a prompt to complete diagnostic? Press that and you are done. This is how I did the antenna, I notched the top panel closest to the windshield, the flat one above the vents. I then notched the dash of the truck UNDER that panel so the wire had a clean route. ![]() ![]() This is where I mounted the antenna. (dusty dash, sorry) ![]() Finished product...... ![]() ![]() ![]() If I missed anything PLEASE let me know. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!!! Finished the steering wheel controls today. Only needed 2 wires from 20p, pins 4 (pink) and 5 (brown) to connector 22p, pins 4 and 5. They are positive and negative for the "remote" control.
