38380-s10-a010-m1 isn't a valid part number according to San Leandro Honda Parts.
I was able to identify the following, similar, part numbers: 1997 CR-V 38380-S10-A01 CONTROL UNIT, DOOR & TRUNK LOCK KEYLESS 1998 CR-V 38380-S10-A02 CONTROL UNIT, DOOR & TRUNK LOCK KEYLESS 1999-2001 CR-V 38380-S10-A03 CONTROL UNIT, DOOR & TRUNK LOCK KEYLESS So I think you want the 38380-S10-A02 for your 1998. They're rather expensive, at $208.90 from San Leandro (slhondaparts.com - where I usually get parts) or $185.69 from South Bay Honda (hondapartscheap.com - I've never dealt with them).

1997 CR-V for remote door locks I only need the remote, right?

I'm in search of knowledge... Did all 1997 CR-Vs come with the door lock actuator as standard eqpt? If I want to have remote door lock capability, I only need to purchase the correct remote key fob... right? Any info would be welcome. Thank you in advance.

You should be able to order the correct remotes from the Marketplace link at the top of the page. If you buy from eBay or somewhere else, make sure they guarantee it's the correct remote for your year. If they say they were all the same you should run away.

It worked!
Racoon, I bought one of the used remotes on E Bay. The rear trunk does not release but I don't care. I now have remote access! My wife is thrilled. Programming took all of 1 minute with no practice. Incredible that she has had the CRV since 2001 and not known that it was remote capable. Thanks to you and your pals on this site for helping me take the leap of faith. This is great stuff!!!
