The P1166 indicates a problem with the primary O2 sensor on your catalytic converter. You'll need to replace it. Search for 'P1166' for some less expensive options than buying it from Honda. And where ever you get the sensor avoid Bosch sensors, there have been a number of HondaSUV.com members who have had problems with them on their CR-Vs. I believe Denso supplies the OEM sensors.
Good luck.

Thanks for the QUICK reply!! I am a first time user so I did not examine the message board.I had similar problems yrs ago with a Nissan truck but it presented by cutting out at high speeds but this car runs fine. Will it develop symptoms? What should I look for to mandate "must take it in" situation? Since I live in the country in a state with no air pollution issues,we have no exhaust inspections.

If you don't replace it you risk damaging/destroying the catalytic converter and it could also affect your fuel mileage.
The 'must take it in' proof is that the light came back on almost immediately after you reset it by disconnecting the battery. And Welcome to HondaSUV.com!

Having searched the forum I now realize I DO need to replace it.Where can I buy one? Is it easy to find/ replace? I worked as a mechanic in college but in the pre-computer era and altho' I have my old tools don't have a ramp or access to a lift

Can the O2 sensor be considered part of the emissions system so that it's covered under warranty for 7 (?) years?

The answer is...in California the O2 sensors are either covered for 3 years/50,000 miles, 7 years/70,000 miles, or 8 years/80,000 miles. I don't know which. All of the information I could find said to check the manufacturers warranty manual that came with your vehicle.

Only certain states have the 8 yr coverage -not mine..I live near post katrina New Orleans and most of the small garages are gone-couldn't wait out the almost 3 years for their insurance tp pay or weren't covered or couldn't take the hassle of re-inspection so they left.I talked with a couple of independents who seemed a bit unsure so I have taken it to the Honda dealer expecting i will pay about 10-20% more but it will be fixed the first time based on my past good experience with them
Thnx for all the help...at least I feel that it's not some silly issue like a bad gas cap that I could've fixed myself |
