Default Is it possible to repair a scratch on '08 plastic back bumper?

While backing into a parking space in my two month old '08 V EX-L, I bumped into the bottom of a cement light-post, causing several scratches on the driver-side back plastic bumper cover.

I've gone to a few body shops and all have said that it's difficult to repair the material on the rear plastic bumper. They can't really buff out the scratches and they could try and paint it, but it wouldn't look good. Independently, they've all said they repair wouldn't look great and suggested, if I wanted to fix it, to replace the rear bumper cover. Certainly, there's more money in it for them to replace the bumper, however, since it's such a new car, I want it to look good and am leery of a sub-par looking repair.

Does anyone have experience in having scratches repaired on the back bumper? (Again, I'm talking about the plastic piece, not the metal/painted part of the car). Is it "repair-able," or am I looking at new bumper to the tune of about $280?

Mine is about 1 year old. I scratched my bumper, front left, right between the two tone pieces. I was so ticked-off in the beginning, but after surveying the car, I found more scratches/dings and what nots, and told myself to give it a rest. I think I'll wait until I get a real big scratch to justify buying a new bumper.

I think it's hard to fix those bumpers.

Post pictures.. maybe someone here can help/advice.

I would say new bumper, especially if you have gouged the plastic....
