Default Metra vs Scosche Dash Kits??

I've read many posts relating to the poor quality of the Metra dash kids for installing an aftermarket radio. I believe that is what Crutchfield offers. I see that Scosche also makes a dash kit. I'm wondering if anyone has compared the two of them side by side, or if anyone has any experience with the Scosche kit?

Thanks.

Judging from the picture of the scosche, it looks like it actually gets fastened from the top and the bottom which the Metra does not. It is also advertised as factory color and texture which the Metra is definitely not. I have the Metra and will probably switch to the scosche.

I see your photos from your previous postings. Nice install. Just curious, what are the measurements of the pocket under the radio in the Metra kit? Specifically, I'm wondering how tall and wide is the opening?

I've got another piece of electronic equipment I'm wondering about installing and wondered if it would fit in that pocket area.

The Metra kit is horrible. I can't stand it, but will live with it because I'm too lazy to reinstall my H/U. I don't know anything about the Scosche kit, but I can't imagine it would be inferior to the Metra. The Metra kit doesn't fasten from the top (only the bottom) and I can actually pull the the top part of the kit out from the dash (the bottom is screwed in). The trim rings are also very flimsy. Go for the scosche...

ALL kits for the hondas are horrible for whatever reason. I used 3 different ones on the gen 2.

Use the HONDA kit Accord pocket!

It looks better and mounts more secure.

I just ordered a Scosche kit, and the Metra is coming with the radio from Crutchfield. I'll do a bit of comparing when I get both and post some pics showing the differences. From all I can tell, the Scosche is a better built unit. When looking at things at Best Buy for example, I know that the installer I talked with said they mostly use only Scosche because of the Metra kits not being very good. Guess that might be why Crutchfield offers those for free.

I'll post back here later this week when I get the two of them.

The the one in my signature that says "My CR-V Site" in bold text?

The stereo link is here:
http://www.magic-eight-ball.com/stereo.html

The first picture is one of the aftermarket kits, the flip-down pocket is shown on the photos lower down.

BBQsauce99 talked me into doing it (he has a gen1), so I'm pretty sure the gen3 will fit as well. It's sad because I had 2 different aftermarket kits for my saturns and they looked as nice as most of the Honda OEM stuff.

One of the CR-V kits called for cutting the corners where there were no break lines . . . they were just trying to cover too many vehicles with one kit I suppose.

I posted the part numbers on another thread a while back; if you're interested and can't turn it up in a search, I'll dig them up for you.

Please post your thoughts of the two. We need a good side by side comparison. Im too lazy to take everything out again and install a new kit. If the stereo breaks and I have to get it warrantied, then I may think about getting a new kit but its just not worth the time. The metra kit fits fine, it just doesnt have the same look and feel as the stock plastic.

Will do. Both are on their way to me. Hopefully I'll have them this week. I'm putting in a Pioneer DEH-P7900BT. I went with that unit because I wanted all it had and really didn't need much more. The Bluetooth, IPod control and overall system control seemed to meet my needs. I looked long and hard at the AVIC D3, but just could spend that much, plus my driving is pretty much always the same routes in a rural area and really wouldn't justify the navigation needs. It would be cool, but not real practical.

Anyway, I'll post lots of photos when I get the two kits and everything installed. I'll probably start a new thread for some of it. I know I looked this forum over from top to bottom to find lots of good info and always appreciated personal experiences with photos, so I'll do the same and hopefully help the next "guy".

One question for you, do you have any tips on getting the dash apart. I've looked over the OEM Bass Kit install instructions, and have even done a dry run. I have pulled the top cover in the center of the dash, then the vents off. But I stopped there. According to the instructions you have to take the A/C-Heater controls off next. I don't see any specific places to put the tools to pry it off. I didn't try it yet. Any suggestions on that part?

Enjoy that AVIC!!

Lars
