Default doors lock randomly by themselves

I just bought an '01 EX with 48K miles on it -- my first one -- and am loving it. Added armrests on both front seats, Wet Okole seat covers, and am thinking about what to do next. All of this, however, has nothing to do with my problem, which is that the doors are locking by themselves from time to time and I can't figure out why. It has happened in several locations, so where I am doesn't seem to have anything to do with it. I thought maybe I was hitting the lock button on the remote when putting it into my pocket, but when I carried it in my hand instead it still happened anyway. This has happened to me 8-10 times in the four weeks that I've owned it. Mostly it's just a nuisance, but I can imagine inadvertently locking my keys in the car sometime.

Has anyone had this problem? Any ideas?

Could this be it?

If you hit the "unlock" on the remote, but then don't open any doors, the doors will relock. The theory behind the behavior is if you're carrying the key in your pocket and you accidently unlock it while walking away (other keys, coins, etc, press the button), you don't want to be leaving your baby unlocked while you're at the office all day.

i like Chip's response i believe there is a "Fail safe" in some systems that will relock the doors if the keys arent in the Ign and the windows are up....maybe you were blessed with the technology......pretty sweet if you ask me

I agree.....its a nice safety feature and u can't lock yurself out because the remote would have to be in yur posession in order for you to hit the unlock button and let feature relock the doors again after 30sec.

The other possibility is a "mal-functioning" (not on a HONDA!) lock relay. We first encountered this on my husband's Ford driving thru a rainstorm, water got up in the "works" and was shorting out the power door locks. Also, I've heard them locking & unlocking on an Acura in the employee parking lot at work on a warm sunny day - go figure?

Follow up question - is there a way to lock all door but the driver's when you are in the car - I put things in the back seat on my way to work, and don't like to drive with the back doors unlocked, but like to keep my driver's door unlocked - don't ask why - just read above about the doors randomly locking & unlocking - I don't like the feeling of being trapped. If I lock the doors when I get in the car - can I then unlock just the driver's? I tried it once, and it set off the alarm - unless I wasn't doing it correctly?

do the doors lock and unlock, or just lock? Do they do it while your driving?

My 04 EX does the same thing, i.e. locks itself when it feels like it. I drive in the garage, get out and go in the house. Later, I might go back to the V in the garage to get something, and it's locked itself. Sometimes it does it and sometimes it doesn't. It never unlocks itself or locks itself while I'm driving. I'm puzzled.

This has happend to me on my 99 cr-v ex. Sometimes when I hit the lock button on the keyless remote, the doors just keep trying to lock themselves a bunch of times. When I press it again, it's supposed to honk the horn but it just keeps locking the doors again.

Upon reading what coolchid said above about the rain, now that I think about it, this only happens when my cr-v has been sitting in the rain for a while. I've noticed that this goes away when it's not raining.

Now the question is, how do I fix it? Even though it doesn't rain much here, it's still quite annoying.

I had this happen on my former 93 Honda Accord. Thought my car was "Possessed". Car doors were locking and unlocking by themselves. I didn't have keyless entry either.

I would imagine that the problem is either a short or bad relay somewhere or the automatic relock thing. However, I have seen a near dead battery on some Chevy's do the same thing.
