Our CRV started acting up with harsh downshifts when coming to stops and sluggish acceleration. I Did a quick search on HondaSUV, and found the probable cause - great forum folks! Turned out to be correct. Throttle body was quoted at $800 + about $70 labor. It fixed the problem, but now the interesting part: Our CRV is out of warranty mileage wise, but get this, our service mgr said if we bought 4 new tires from him, then he would good will the TB ($800). I said that didn't seem right, since if he could good will it, it should be independent if I spend another 400 on tires. After 30 minutes of discussion, and me telling him I felt like he was using coercion to make more money, he agreed to go to bat with Honda on a 100% goodwill without the tire stipulation. After all that, Honda did good will it, except labor. That makes me wonder if he knew that all along (there is a TBS about it), and just wanted another $400 dollars (along with the 800 reimbursed by Honda) as icing on the cake, and was using it as a carrot for me to take the bait. This is the second sensor (1st was shift position sensor) to go bad on our 2 year old car after 36,000 miles, both have been partially good willed, but I am really questioning the quality in the newer Hondas, and worse yet, the integrity of the dealerships. mitt2004 |

Sounds like your service advisor gets commission on tire sales.
Contact the GM of the dealership and calmly and politely explain what he tried to do. Maybe the GM will help you out. Honda (or other vehicle manufacturers) does not pay retail for warranty work that their dealers perform. The dealer gets the part for "free" and Honda reimburses for labor at a substantial discount.

rather than start another thread, as i was about to do, i'll just piggyback on this one...
my wife started complaining about the symptoms for the TPS a few weeks ago, and it finally happened to me while i was driving. she got the code pulled as P0122 at autozone, and i had it diagnosed (thanks to this forum!!!) in 5 minutes. i've read about the $800+ repair costs, so i searched around for cheaper deals online... Hondapartsdeals.com wants $571.47 plus shipping slhondaparts.com wants $639.76 plus shipping part number (for the complete throttle body assy) is 06160-PPA-A10 by the way, it supercedes some previous part numbers that you may turn up. i've dealt with slhondaparts before (got an O2 sensor from them a few months back), but i don't know anything about hondapartsdeals.com. anyone have any experience with them or any other potential sources for cheap, new, OEM parts? i called the local dealer (John Eagle Honda) in Houston, mentioned the problem, mentioned that many people seem to be getting the repair goodwilled, and he basically gave me a "maybe" response. i hate to take the car to them and then have them deny the goodwill and have to pay the obligatory diagnostic fee even tho i already know what the problem is. i suppose the best i could do is to bring in printouts from this forum of all the people who've gotten goodwill fixes. hers is an '03 EX with roughly 65K miles, give or take. thoughts and/or advice? i hate to pay $600 for the part if i can get the dealer to goodwill it for $100-150 or so in labor. edit- does anyone know if the most recent supercession (revision) of the part solves the problem with the TPS or not? also, has anyone performed the TB swap themselves, and if so, any procedural advice or tips? -carl Last edited by carl [audi]; 01-12-2007 at 11:15 AM. |

It sounds really odd that they're replacing the throttle body rather than just the sensor. There is no way you should be paying $800 for a potentiometer

If the rep was so sleazy as to suggest buying tires would get it covered, I would be willing to bet Honda DID cover it 100% and they charged you labor on top of it, essentially double-billing on the labor.
