Default Need help deciding between CRV -Lx & EX

I am planning to buy a SUV and I need help in deciding the model.

1. I got a quote difference of $1500 for EX over LX , additional features in EX 6cd changer, alloy wheels, moonroof, controls on steering. If I don't need thsese additional features are there any other difference in drving ?comfort etc ?

2. Alloy wheels are they preferd over steel ? What is the major benefit ?

3.Is it a risk to buy a 2006 CRV when 2007 CRV is just 10 days away ?
Will 2006CRV rates go down further on launch of 2007 model ?

4. 2007 CRV is next genaration model, so will it be a factor for the reslae value of 2006 CRV down 4 years from now ?

5. Any indication on the price of CRV2007 ? will it be higher ? are there are any risks going for 2007CRV ? How long will it take to get good deals on 2007 models

6. Finally , I got a quote differnece of $700 between CRV Ex model and 2006RAV4 v6 4WD base model . Which is a better choice ?

Thanks in advance .

I am assuming that you are comparing an EX and an LX that are either both 2 wheel or both all wheel drive, otherwise there would be a greater difference in price, but just make sure you're compaing apples to apples. The alloy wheels and sun roof were important to me, and it sounds silly, but I really wanted the exterior temperature guage. However, many people on here end up buying custom wheels and stereos, so you could always get the LX and upgrade it yourself. I also don't think the 2007 model is 10 days away, but you might want to tell the dealer to call you when they come in. He'll probably either give you more incentive to buy an 06 now because he won't want you to walk off the lot, or you may be able to get a better deal on an 06, after the 07's are on the lot. Whatever you get, it'll be a good car. Good luck with it.

Deals will be sweeter on the 2006's once the 2007's hit the showroom floor. Given that people want the 2007's.

2007 will be the first model year for that vehicle, I would stay away from it.

Wait until 2011-12 to get a good deal on the 3rd gen CR-V.

The difference between the EX AWD and LX AWD is about $1000.

Whoever qouted you the RAV6 V6 AWD for $700 more is either pulling your chain, or it is a stripper with no power anything. Compare a comparable loaded EX a RAV4, it should be more expensive than $700.

I personally went with EX because it is the ONLY trim with manual transmission.

We were faced with the same question back in August 2005. We looked at the two and finally decided on the LX AWD. The final price difference is approximately $1400. As stated the only difference between the LX and the EX is:

1. Audio controls on steering wheel
2. 6 disc in dash player
3. moon roof
4. painted mirrors
5. alloys
6. window tint

Here is what I did with the $1400 that I saved:

1. bought Element EX alloys off of EBay for $300 (sold my steelies for $135) so net price for alloys = $165
2. bought MB Quart DKE 116 speakers for the front (stock speakers are CRAP!); made a world of difference for $120 installed
3. window tinted the entire vehicle for $150
4. bug deflector from mats.com for $75

So in all, I spent $510 getting the vehicle just right. $890 in my pocket. I didn't need the audio controls on the steering wheel; we never used the sunroof in our other cars and I can definitely live without a 6 disc changer.

Hope this helps. BTW we got our LX for $200 under invoice. It seems the dealers are willing to nego more on the LX than on the EX.

I think there are current great deals on ALL models. We got our '06 EX at the end of June for $880 under invoice with shipping charge, and the dealer threw in a set of OEM sidesteps at no additional cost. Deals should be even better now.

ALL safety features are the exact same. The driving experience is identical. I personally chose EX model because, I WANTED a MOON ROOF , 6-cd changer, alloys. Otherwise there is no difference.
I might add, cars w/ more options are generally easier to sell privately. I purchased mine for $20,995.

Undercover, like blueiedgod, I also wanted a manual tranny, and the features on the EX that I liked were there with alloys, a decent stereo (so I wouldn't have some guy tearing my new dash all apart to put in a new one), tinted windows and sunroof that I use occassionally. After having lived with it, I REALLY do like the steering wheel mounted stereo controls. If the drivetrain is similar, you should have a virtually identical drive from the vehicles. I would also tend to steer away from the 1st year of any new vehicle - even a Honda. The RAV4 is limiting in features unless you option out and spend a lot more $$. The current V is the last year of what seems to be a very good model. If you keep vehicles for a longer time, then the '06 V will be a good choice. It appears to have more room and SUV-ability than the '07 will also.

That's my .02 - good luck and enjoy whatever you end up with!

The '07 V will not be released in 10 days. The only thing being released is official information from Honda on Sep. 1st. The vehicle will be in dealerships in Oct. or Nov.
