Default P0302 Code - Cylinder #2 Misfire

just got back from getting my gen1 scanned at autozone due to CEL...

P0302 Code - Cylinder #2 Misfire

was the result...

i am going to pull the plugs and check them out but they are fairly new (denso iridiums)

i will also change out the plug wires and reset the ecu

if the cel comes back i will change the distributor cap and rotor and reset the ecu again...

any other suggestions if the CEL comes back even after that?

I believe one of the causes of that code is a burnt engine valve. Use the Search feature at the top of the page to search for P0302 and read the threads.

As racoon said it most prob a burnt out valve. We did one this week. It had a new head and a couple of valves.

i checked and re seated the plugs...replaced the spark plug wires and reset the ecu...

a week and 300 miles or so later, the CEL did not come back on...

should i still get the vavles checked?

and if it is a burnt vavle, would i notice any performance issues?

No performance issues, but, like the other threads said. . . You have to adjust gen 1 valves every 30,000 Miles, and you ask to have them set to the 'loose' side of the spec.

The only thing anybody ever mentions is stalling during the warm-up period. First traffic light, or stop sign. Fuel mileage will improve a bit after adjusting tight valves too.

Going out of town for a trip is strongly warned against if you've had a misfire code recently.

Honda says Gen 1 needs valve adjustment at 105K. If you have valve probs before then I'd take it up with Honda. Curly Q why do you say to adjust valves every 30K? just curious if theres something I should know. You only learn by asking.

The Honda recommended service interval is indeed 105,000 miles.

But quite a few 1st Gen CR-V owners have had problems with valves burning long before 105,000 miles, which is a very expensive repair.

Having the valves checked every 30,000 miles is a precaution to avoid burnt valves.

I didn't dream up that number (perhaps somebody else did) but I think one of our British owners said that his manual clearly suggests 50,000 Km (which is 30,000 Miles)

Get those valves adjusted ASAP if you haven't already done so. The plugs are not the ones that's bad. If it's been over 30,000 miles, it's time to do so for your CR-V!

I adjusted my own valves, there are many how-to's online. Just take it step by step, and do it when you do an oil change (as you will be taking the valve cover off). I love performing small sugeries like this on my car, it just makes me feel good about taking care of something, ofcourse at almost 25 y/o my fatherly instincts are starting to come into play, HAHA.
