Default Oil leak?

My 1997 Honda CRV has approximately 127,000 miles and the past year I've been keeping a close eye on the engine exterior. At first there was just a slight build up of dirt/oil around the engines gasket right near the exhaust. It now appears to be growing in size and possibly covering part of the bottom half of the engine. What is the most plausible diagnosis? Any estimates on the repair bill?

Thanks in Advance!

Have you been checking the oil level regularly?
Do you have to add oil between oil changes?
Is the CR-V leaving oil spots on the ground where you park it?

Age.

I wouldn't worry about it as long as your garage floor continues to be clean.

I have read good reports on the high mileage oil ,for vehicles over 100K.I used it in my Rav with great results,it swells the gaskets with no bad effects. At your mileage it would be a good option.

In it's entire history (we bought it new) the car has never had oil added between changes. The oil/dirt buildup is only on the engine itself and has never dripped or left puddles where it is parked.

I don't believe we put high mileage oil in the car.

If you dont add oil between changes and find none on the ground I wouldnt worry about it.But if the oil seeping through gets worse you could try the high mileage oil.Over time all gaskets shrink from the continual heating and cooling so it is nothing to worry about unless it starts to run down the motor or drip on floor or you have to continually add oil.

Just checked the oil today and it's completely full and not as black as usual

No dripping onto the ground either and the car loves to rev. Aside from the bit of oil on the exterior of the engine the car feels mechanically sound.

might be a good idea to wash the engine from this oil/dirt build-up so that you can better monitor further leaks...
