Maybe I read that wrong?
I'll have to search those discussions for the answer to that, I remember that point being brought up. But the Honda tech said "just live with the light".

Remember there are TWO TPMS lights, one for low pressure in a tire, the other is a system check.

+++++++++++++++

In looking for that other information just now, I've found that Honda systems will NOT SET THE LIGHT as long as the OE sensors are out of range of the car (60 - 80 feet). So if you don't care about the TPMS system on your winter tires, get regu;lar valves and store the Summer tires at your Mother-in-Law's in the next county.

Oh, and the trigger pressure is supposed to be 28 PSI. Honda HAS has calibration problems so if your low pressure light goes on and you have 28 PSI in there, you can bring it in for a reflash at no charge.

(Still lookin' for the functionality issue...)

Yeah, honestly the TPMS light being on wouldn't bother me, but I wouldn't want that to cause problems with any other system as a result.

Seems like there has to be a solution to this that wouldn't defeat the TPMS or cause you to have to take your car to a dealer twice in a year. I sure would think that tire retailers have to have some way to solve this, or risk having a lot of problems with customers. I'll have to make a few phone calls tomorrow when my dealer and a few tire retailers are open to see what they say.

RTFM. From the 2007 Honda CR-V Owners Manual, Page 243:

Quote:
If the low tire pressure indicator or TPMS indicator comes on, the VSA system automatically turns on even when the VSA system is turned off by pressing the VSA OFF switch (see page ). If this happens, you cannot turn the VSA system off by pressing the VSA off switch again.

Assuming "RTFM" stands for what I'm sure it does...thanks for your "kind" response.

However, the question of how to "manage" this problem when installing snow tires still is in play. I just can't believe tire retailers don't have a solution....or maybe the TPMS system is still too new. I just don't feel like taking my CRV to a dealer twice a year when switching tires. Seems like a PITA!

Yes, Read The Fine (Owners) Manual.

If you want TPMS with your winter tires than you need to:
1) swap the tires on regular wheels with the original sensors twice a year
2)buy a second set of TPMS sensors for your winter wheels and tires, and take your vehicle to the dealer twice a year to have the sensors reset.

Seems simple to me, if not exactly an elegant solution in either case.

I chose door #1, I couldn't afford an extra set of rims with TPMS this year, I will get some next season (if I am still in snow country). I also went with a slightly different size of tire to save some money. I went with a 215/65/17 instead of the 225. This results in only a 1.5% difference on the odometer/speedometer so no problems there.

Cheers

Ok, so after looking at all options, including getting new rims/wheels and new TPMS sensors, it has become clear it will be a substantial investment no matter which way I go. I went to a few tire shops and they did indicate that if I went with a slightly different sized tire, the options grew greatly.

However, the one shop I went to suggested an alternative option, get a set of Goodyear Fortera triple tread tires, put them on the stock rims with the stock TPMS sensors and have a great performing all year tire! Cost here in MI for them is around $625 or so installed.

So now I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with them? Seems to me that with the great snow handling abilities of the CRV with even the stock tires, that adding a high performance triple tread tire will give me great winter handling and allow me as well a great wet and dry pavement tire for year round use.

Again, anyone with experience of the Fortera that can share some insight would be great.
