Default 05 CRV XM Radio question

does anyone know how this thing works? I called the dealer and they said $519.00 I thought the radio was XM radio and you just had to call XM and pay the monthly fee or something. Pls help.

The XM radio option on the '05 is just that, an option. I was quoted ~$500 plus installation, which would have put this far out the price I would pay. It looked like a pretty involved installation. XM radio contract is ~$10 per month, but I believe Honda may give a couple free months to start.

You can purchase XM radio receivers for less that $100 with a car kit. It is not as elegant as a built in unit, but at the price, I would not justify the built in.

One other note, I understand XM requires a special antenna. The Honda OEM installation includes this antenna. An aftermarket unit would have to be installed.

Thanks for the note. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. I can buy the Delphi Skyfi2 receiver and car kit combo for $49 and then have it installed for prob another 50 so I was baffled when Honda quotes more than 500. Just rediculous..

Just make sure you mount the antenna at the highest point possible. On my 2005 CR-V, there is already a place on top of the roof towards the back that the antenna can be installed. You will just have to run the wires from inside and under the liner.

I have researched this issue when I got my 05 CR-V SE...All you need is the extra attachment unit and an XM antenna...the items should not run you more then $150 plus install....That is it......the reason why many of you are getting these very high prices is because the dealer advisor or whomever you speak to is not familiar with these new Units and are quoting you prices for the XM-ready AM/FM/CD unit plus attachment plus antenna, when u already have the expensive XM-ready unit....I could get everything installed at my dealer Bay Ridge H0nda in Brooklyn for $210.00......

    Dencoop,

Not sure what you're referring to, and not to beat a dead horse, but the parts needed to make the 05 XM Ready radio work are:

    08A15-EX5-100A* *ANTENNA, XM RADIO* 113.4
    *08B15-S9A-100* *ATTACHMENT, XM RADIO (GA-NET)* 45.9
    *08A15-EX5-000* *TUNER, XM RADIO* 322.65

which comes to $481 and change (and that's from a "discount" store) not including installation. You can find .pdf's online using the part numbers that outline the installation process and show what parts are needed where on the 05's.

Hope this helps folks let go of their OEM XM jones

    brewynz,

If you have an 05 SE(I am not sure if Exs need it.......)

The radio is already XM-ready which means that you do not need an
08A15-EX5-000 TUNER, XM RADIO 322.65 ....you already have it built into your unit.....read the Honda website or just look at your radio...it will say "XM Ready"...ther is even a button to switch to XM.....

    Dencoop,

It's not the exact same thing, but check this out. It'll give you an idea of the $322 box you have to buy to make an "XM Ready" head unit receive an XM signal:

    http://www.cartoys.com/cartoys/showd...duct_ID/86763/

The CR-V SE model may be fully XM capable off the lot, I don't know. I know that one of the Accord models is. The CR-V EX requires the tuner box similar to the one in the link, a mounting bracket and an antenna kit in addition to the XM Ready head unit. The tuner box thingie mounts towards the rear of the car. Think of it like a head unit that can control a remote CD changer and having to buy the CD changer. Come to think of it, Honda did that on my old civic as well.

If you do a search under "The Wired CR-V", you'll find this topic beaten to death there as well.

If you use the Build and Price feature on the Honda website, choose a CR-V SE, and then click the Audio tab the XM Satellite Radio is a $519 accessory. The headunit is ready to control the XM receiver, but you still have to buy the receiver. The EX model has the same accessory.

The LX headunit is apparently not "XM ready", since the XM Satellite Radio doesn't appear as an option.

Default Hmmmmmm....let me get this straight....

After reading everyone's inputs and doing some research, I think I have this all figured out. However, please feel free to do your own research an let me know this if this will work.
When I was purchasing my 05, the dealer told me I would have to purchase the XM tuner to make the whole thing work--the head unit on the 05 EX and SE is simply an XM radio controller--the tuner still needs to be installed. I priced the tuner at http://www.collegehillshonda.com/crv/05_electronics.htm who beat the retail price a bit--o/a $450 (tuner/antenna/mount). WOW, too much for my blood. But, now, I'm seeing the tuner and antenna at Cartoys for only $49.95? Looks like the XMD1000 is what I need (set up for XM ready head units) at http://www.cartoys.com/cartoys/showd...duct_ID/86761/.
Now, here's where it gets tricky for me, so I need someone's expertise. After reading the Honda version installation instructions at http://www.handa-accessories.com/crv/05CRVXMINTER.pdf , there is a 14-pin connector that plugs into Hondas tuner--I'm guessing that's wiring to the head unit and/or power. I doubt that will fit into the tuner I buy at car toys, so I guess I need to know (1) what the 14-pin connector is for and (2) if there is an adapter I can buy for it.
    Thanks All!
