Default How does the factory Alarm system work?

I've wanted to know how the system works. I month ago at work my Alarm started going off I don't know if someone hit it I walked out no damage I ALWAYS lock my doors and keep my windows rolled up (Don't want any bugs crawling around). The same thing happened again today no damage all the windows where up. Could it be a wiring problem? I put a deck in 2 years ago and a powered sub woofer in last November.

It might be, though I don't think the factory ever provided a system. Though some dealerships might have offered an aftermarket option. It depends on how good of a job they did with the install. Something may have worked loose and thus, is giving you the intermittent issue.

In the USA the 1st Gen CR-Vs did not come with a 'factory' alarm.

The dealer you bought it from might have added the Honda alarm accessory before you bought it, or an aftermarket alarm.

Do you have a separate control for the alarm?
What does your remote entry control look like?

I'm like the 4th owner of the car I bought it 2 years ago so I would have no idea if they did or not. It's just the normal key fob with the unlock/lock the rear hatch and panic button. I know with the parents pilot if they windows are down and the doors are locked and you pull on the handle it sets the alarm off I didn't know if the first gen crv's are the same.

Do you have a picture of the key fob?
And what are the numbers on the back?

I was afraid someone might ask that! The numbers on the back are rubbed off.

Okay, so that is a Honda remote and might be the one for the Honda alarm.

    Try this.
    1. roll down one of the windows.
    2. use the remote to lock the doors and arm the alarm system.
    3. reach in through the open window and unlock and then open the door.

    Does the alarm sound?
If it doesn't for that one door, try it again on a different door.

Also, here's a link to the Honda Security System instructions, which includes instructions for adjusting the sensitivity.

That looks like a standard Honda key fob for keyless entry. At least it looks like mine. Without the numbers on the back, I can't say for 100% sure though.

I did and and no alarm went off. Weird I wonder if the battery is about to go dead.

In the evening, check all the doors by wiggling them to see if the interior light flickers (or sets off the alarm).

Be aware that testing the alarm behind your apartment complex can lead to flat tires / broken windows next morning.

You MAY have the optional hood switch too, and they give trouble because they rust out. Set the alarm and try wiggling the hood.

    You'll find it.
