    Default Injector noise?

    I have started noticing a strange hissing sound (from under the hood) when I press the gas pedal... but only under certain situations.

    E.g., the V is moving smoothly at 30 - 45mph, no gas (slowing down). At this point, if I press the gas, it produces this strange hissing sound.

    Any one else notice?

    Any idea what it might be?

    PS: I had an 1985 accord (the most beautiful body design, IMHO). It too used to produce this sound. That time I asked at the Accord forums and no one could either pin point the source or suggest a cure. However, several members mentioned the noticing noise that kept getting worse over the years. Many suggested it was the fuel injectors ... (hence the subject line).

    This is an interesting problem, but I can't think why it would the injectors, a 'hissing' from the injector means there is a leak somewhere, either on the injector itself or the fuel rail leading to the injector, either way, you probably get a smell of fuel from the engine bay.

    If you are brave you could remove the injectors and inspect the injection ends, then take super extra care and check the spray patterns, they should all be the same which is a thin mist.

    I personally think you have a air leak somewhere, you should check your air lines to the engine.

    Do you track your fuel mileage, and has it changed recently?

    Usually when I hear a hissing noise I think vacuum leak.

    never had an injector make a hissing sound......

    usually vacuum leak, get a can of starting fluid and spray it around the vacumn lines when idling, if idle increases replace vacumn line, would spray it light around the intake tube between throttle body/air filter.

    also look at the intake snorkel(before filter) for damage/out of place

    does the hiss sound change when you give in more gas? it could be the intake tube is cracked

    Jammy-J : No fuel smell in the cabin or around. But, vacuum/Air leak is a definite probability. My cruise doesn't engage immediately, I've lived with it because that isn't much of an issue.

    Removing injectors is probably out of question. V is my only car and I want it running all the time.

    ============

    Racoon : My mileage hasn't dropped. The last refueling showed 25mpg - the exact average.

    ============

    alaskan155 : How dangerous is the operation - i.e., spraying starter fluid in the engine bay when it is running? Also, I need to figure out exactly where to spray. Any diagrams/pictures?

    =============

    downloader : I haven't noticed any change in the sound with increased gas. But I'll be more attentive when I drive home tonight.

    Thank you everyone for replies.

    Removing injectors is not that difficult, but I am pretty sure it would be pointless check.
    All signs point to an air leak. The starter fluid idea is a good one, just dont go spraying it on the hot outlet manifold and you will be ok.

    The Accord I mentioned earlier did not have the "slow cruise engagement" problem. That problem is unique to my V.

    just keep it away from the exhuast/spark plugs and anything else hot and you'll be fine. best to do it with a cold engine

    I paid close attention while driving back home.

    1. The sound doesn't change with acceleration.
    2. Also, the sound is not a 'hisss', but a whistling sound, much like the sound of wheels on certain pavements.... 'wheee.....'.

    Sorry about misleading earlier...
