Thread: CRV Security System?

  1. #1

    Default CRV Security System?

So I have a 2008 with a sticker that says Honda Security and Engine Immobilizer. I'm familiar with the Engine Immobilizer part and notice the red blinking light on the dash, but did not notice any other security feature like an alarm.

On Honda's current website, it says the EX models have a security system standard, but does not explain what it is, I tried to click around the site and found nothing. Can someone explain?

On my Mitsu Eclipse, it comes with a very basic security system where the horn would beep if the hood or doors were opened without a key after its been locked with the key clicker.

The only thing that comes to mind is the code system for the radio. If the power is disconnected, the radio requires a code to enable it. Then again, I'm only generally familiar with the later models. Most of my intimate, extensive experience is with the later gen 1 models...

Hah if the radio is it, then it would be such a weak security system. Maybe thats why the advertised it for marketting purposes, but dont provide any details since there really isnt much of a system in place? lol. At least with my Eclipse advertised security system as a standard feature, the horn would make sounds once in a while.

I tried reading the CRV manual too, but in the back index, there is no security word to look up. Now im even more determined to find out what this advertisement is about!

OK nevermind! I found it! Info is on page 220 of the manual, BUT the search words "security system" is not listed in the Index. Because that would just make too much sense and be too easy to find for owners.....thanks a lot...Honda.

Page 220: Factory Security for EX and above models. "The security system auto sets in 15 seconds after you lock the door, hood, and the tailgate. Once the secuirty system is set, opening any door without using the key or the remote transmitter, the hood, or the tailgate will cause the system to alarm.

I shall test this passive alarm system out tomorrow!

Interesting! Yeah, the index isn't always the most logical. Try the OEM service manual some time, there isn't even an index to work with!

How will you test it? How will you open a locked door or tailgate without damage? Just wondering.

    1. Roll down a window.
    2. Lock the CR-V with the remote.
    3. Reach through the open window and unlock the door by pulling up on the lock knob (don't use the electronic unlock button).
    4. Open the door.

From experience with my Honda's even if you push the electronic unlock button from the inside once the doors have been locked with the remote, the alarm will sound. I've encountered this instance twice, once on my 03 Pilot and once on the 08 Pilot. The only way to get it to stop is to insert the key in the driver's side door.
