Default Proof that atf-dw1 is full synthetic

    http://www.hondawest.ca/cart/images/CA66844.jpg

Is this a canada website? Why are they keeping it a secret in USA??? The US bottles dont say ANYTHING about being full synthetic with Honda or Acura bottles. Or is it ONLY synthetic in canada??? EDIT******EDIT*** Local dealer called tech line..they said PCM in canda are different and require synthetic ATF. USA dw-1 is not synthetic and they do not recommend running any full or semi synthetic in USA vehicles. LAME!!

Maybe because US and Canadian laws differ in what's defined as "full synthetic"?
Not that I know, I'm just asking.

US definition of "synthetic" if pretty WEAK. A base 3 synthetic oil is just dino oil "modified"..like Mobil one EP used to be (it still may be). The "real" synthetics are Base 4 stock like castrol edge, Amsoil SS...probably many others. So you could be buying a motor oil called "synthetic" that is actually dino based! If you buy a 0w (which I recommend to everyone) I *think* it has to be base 4 as 0w is hard/impossible to attain with dino.

Its not my theory. You can read about it on the website http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/motor-oil-101/

The basic idea is with 0w, 5w, 10w -30 they are all the same thickness at operating temp (212F) of the engine (the 30 rating is the same with all) . You can use the same oil year round with a water cooled motor. The main difference is at room temp (or colder) the thickness difference is HUGE. Upon startup is where your engine damage occurs (assuming you have clean oil, proper weight, etc). So you want the thinnest oil at startup to prevent engine damage. This thin oil also helps MPG. I'm loving the Amsoil SSO 0w30. I'm getting a 10,000 mile oil analysis by Blackstone labs (check out the hundreds of these posted by forum users) on both my cars to make sure 10,000 miles is a safe interval. I have always done 5,000 miles with Mobil one 5/30. They have a TotalBaseNumber (TBN) that measures your oil's reserve acid-fighting ability. Or the "life" left. Its really fascinating. They can predict failures by the percentages of solids (air filter) and certain metals, fuel in the oil, coolant in oil,etc etc. (she drives crv, I drive rsx)

I think the new ATF DW1 must be synthetic..it would have to be to get better fuel economy and perform better at cold temps as synthetics can provide a lower pour point than dino can. It makes sense if you read between the lines...

Please feel free to check out the MPG wife and I are getting with amsoil 0w30 SS. She makes no attempts to get good mileage. Always speeding, using ac and headlight. Still averaging 25mpg+ on a 4x4crv. Loaded with baby stuff and vet junk. Her APRIL MPG increased a FULL 1MPG using amsoil 0w30 VERSUS Mobil1 0w30. No changes in driving. Shes hit a couple 26 and 27mpg. Are the other 4x4 CRVs getting CLOSE to that?

I did 27 - 28 back when I was using car tires on a regular basis and even saw 30ish mpg a couple times when the planets aligned properly. Of course that was pure, 100% highway mileage.

I certainly don't get numbers like that now for several reasons.

    What a Gong Show.!!

I think they just forgot to put the wording 'FULL SYNTHETIC' on the US version when they contracted the outfit to print the labels.

It works fantastic (at least the Canadian fluid does)
