Default Rear End Spare Tire Installation on a 2008 CR-V?

hey guys this is my first post!

I am a proud owner of a 2008 CR-V (had a 2004 CR-V before too) and I miss that spare wheelie look at the back of the suv.

Is there a way I could just mount a spare tire with the cover at the back of the 2008 CR-V? or if the weight might be an issue than simply a fake wheel cover bolted on somehow?

If you have seen anyone try this or have tips/suggestions please roll em out
    am all ears!

I feel that sporting a spare wheel tire at back with the cover on would enhance the looks of my CRV a great deal... maybe its just me, call me weird but each time i see my crv i feel something's missing..

The 3rd Gen CR-V lift gate isn't designed to carry the weight of a tire and wheel.

You could buy one of the hard spare tire covers from an early generation of CR-V, or a generic hard spare tire cover...and then somehow mount it on your tailgate.

    But why?

The easiest and least destructive way if you change your mind in the future is to install a 2" hitch and get a hitch-mounted swing-away spare tire mount. Lot of jeep inspired options out there. Enjoy the "off-roader" looks and extra space where the spare used to reside

It is also very inconvenient to have to empty out the trunk to get to the spare on Gen 3, and 3.5. I just had to go through that on the 2010 we have. Luckily, Murphy and his law were not there, as it was not snowing/raining and muddy when I needed to get the doughnut.

Plus, the doughnut is only good for 50 mph, and 50 miles, it is not like the full size spare previous Gens had, where you could drive on it, while you were shopping for a replacement tire.

I think the early Kia Sportage had a side mounted swing mount for the spare tire. However, you would have to swing the tire out every time you wanted to load something into the hatch.

It is the little things like that make me appreciate the 2005 we kept.

could u gimme an example or links of suv's with this sort of a thing?

i dont mind sporting an empty hard plastic spare tire cover too as long as it makes the crv look offroad lol

If you go with a product that mounts the spare on the hitch, make sure you get a sturdy Class III (like a Curt) hitch and do not use the wimpy factory hitch.

Reaching for the spare on my Wrangler or CRV is so simple versus crawling under the vehicle to get it or putting it back up under the vehicle. A real full-size spare has obvious benefits versus the limited service donut. The only negatives I think are vandalism and theft. 007....make sure you provide some pics of the tough off-roader

That seems like your best option if you really want an external spare. I always preferred that look over a hidden one. Plus ones, mounted under the vehicle get pretty rusty from all the mud and junk that collects on them and traps moisture.
