Thread: Honda Care covering TPMS replacements?

    Default Honda Care covering TPMS replacements?

    I've got Honda Care, a TPMS light on (different from the low tire pressure light), and a tight budget. Has anyone had TPMS sensor replacement covered under Honda Care? According to my 2007 contract, sensors [term used generically] are covered, wheels, tires and value stems are not. I checked the maintenance codes, and TPMS replacement is not listed as a maintenance item. The term TPMS is never used in my 2007 contract, I'll bet it is addressed specifically in Honda's more recent contract language.

    I'll post back here with what I find, but I can't see how Honda can deny it, since sensors are specifically listed as covered, and TPMS is not listed under exclusions.

    Default TPMS replacements

    My understanding is Hondacare covers everything except normal "wear and tear" items.
    I would be extremely surprised if they did not cover it.

    Let us know.

    I have the 8 yr 100k coverage.

    Since the TPMS sensors are battery powered and have a finite life span, those would seem to be "normal wear and tear" items, although they are supposed to have a life span of about 7 years. The batteries can't be changed separately. I would be surprised if a 2007 already needs new ones.

    Sucks that our gubberment requires them and that Honda had to tie them into the VSA system though. I would happily pull the warning light out when the sensors start dying and use the same tire pressure monitoring system that has worked for years; the silver one in the glovebox.

    I think sparkydave may be right...if it's been longer than the expected battery life of the sensors.
    But if a sensor fails before that time, then it _might_ be covered.

    And of course the definitive answer can be found by contacting your local Honda dealer and asking the the Service Manager to check with Honda.
    If you get any push back from the Service Manager, call Honda corporate directly.

    Sounds great, but have you taken a look at a modern gauge cluster ? I'm not sure you could be able to do that, but would be nice to know for sure .

    You have got to be kidding me, 10 minutes from my dealer appointment the TPMS light goes out. No diagnostic code, no fix. I have to agree with others, not sure this technology was really ready for prime time.

    Default TPMS Light Kept coming on

    My TPMS light started coming on less than a year after I got my 2007 CRV. Would come on after 40 miles, then go out. Repeated. Dealer showed that there was a failure on all four sensors, but they felt that was impossible, so they simply flashed the computer and waited. After two years, and the CRV no longer under warranty, the light started coming on again. Back to the dealer... The right rear sensor was bad and they replaced it. They almost charged me for it, but because I had brought it in previously for the problem, they took the charge off. That was about two months ago. Two weeks ago, while packing the car for a trip, noise was coming from the right rear... like a weedwacker, but the car was not running... key wasn't even in the ignition. Got in the car and drove... TPMS light came on and stayed on. Have an appt with the dealer next week. Wonder if they'll charge me this time.

    Thanks for the info, that is one weird symptom with the car shut off. My first TPMS issue happened at 48,500 miles, I think we are going to see more and more CRV's with TPMS issues as they age. Will be interested to see what Honda is willing to cover out of warranty, good luck with yours, please let the board know what they find out. (My mysterious TPMS light has not come back on so far, and its been about a week since it went out 10 minutes from the dealer. No funny noise or other symptoms either.)

    There weren't even 12000 miles on my CRV when it first happened. Then it was 34K when it happened again...but out of warranty because it was past three years. My CRV only has 36k on it right now. I think there are going to be a lot of these problems. I wonder if it's worth buying an extending warranty.

    That's one of the reasons I bought the 8yr 100k extended warranty.
    The sensor costs can kill you if you're not able to replace them yourself.

    My 2000 Maxima has cost me close to $1,000.00 in sensors alone.
