    Default OVERHEAD CONSOLE

I just got my Element a few days ago and would like to know if anyone out there knows of a vendor that sells an overhead console. I bought the LX model and it doesn't have an overhead console like the DX. I like the sunglass case and lights in the oem console. Any feedback would be welcome.

I don't think there is much you could do. I would look at JC Whitney for overhead consoles for van and pickups. I'm not sure they would fit though. The only other thing would be to get the part number of the OEM and get prices for it around your area or on the internet. There are some dealers on the internet and ebay that are much lower than most local dealers. That is probably a special order part and might need a deposit or might not be refundable. I'd bet that like most parts on the E, the LX is ready to install the console without much work besides dealing with the headliner of course. Check your dealer's parts department to see a pic of the install to be sure.

It looks like the headliner of the EX is molded diferently, not just cut differently, from than that of the LX and DX. I haven't seen part number(s) for it yet.

I was loooking at a way to add more overhead storage to my EX. The best I could figure out was a 'T" shaped console, anchored into the rear door latch brackets, and extending forward.

I was looking into this, too. I figured I could get a console out of a wrecked EX and install it in my LX. I talked to someone at a Honda salvage yard who told me the part would be about $25. He also said that the roof probably has the mounting hols already in place as Honda tends to do this with their vehicles. Thank you Honda.

If the yard has a wrecked EX, they may allow you to remove the console and/or measure the headliner cutout and position. It's also a good way to be sure you get the associated hardware -screws and the like.

The mounting holes are not as much of a problem as cutting the headliner so the finished job looks decent. Because the headliner is an expensive component, you might want to consider taking the job to a shop that does interior work.

You dismount the roof console by prying out the light lenses, unscrewing the rear end, pulling down the rear end, sliding the whole unit and rearward, then disconnecting the wiring connector. The wiring harness should have a connector for an OEM console.

Unfortunately, the wrecked Element (GG ) was only sold as a complete vehicle. Also, this particular yard does not allow the 'customer' to remove the parts. As the E gets more popular, it should be easier to find parts at more yards, possibly at the local Pick-and-Pull.

Sidenote: Seeing that poor battered Element almost brought tears to my eyes.

Have you checked to find what the console would cost new? It might be worth it.
