    Default Uneven Tire Wear

    I took my 08 CRV in for a B1 scheduled maintenance today and they rotated the tires. According to their measurements, 3 of the tires are at 4/32 tread, while one is at 7/32. The one that is at 7/32 was in the left rear, but now is on the front right.

    I have the factory Bridgestone Dueler H/T on my car. The dealer is saying that the tires need to be replaced at 3/32. The three at 4/32 seem to be wearing awful quick considering that I only have just over 20k on the car.

    My big question though is, why the drastic difference in wear on that one tire. The service guy didn't seem to have any real explanation. His only ideas were:
    1) That tire was replaced at some point - this simply did not happen
    2) Uneven tire inflation - I'm 99% sure this is not the cause

    Any ideas?

    did you check the pressure in all 4 tires? The OEM's don't usually last much longer than 20- 25K... you will be lucky if you get 30K. Do yourself a favor and start shopping for replacements!

    Is it possible the spare tire was rotated in? The tire with 7/32 could have spent a lot of time as the spare.

    gen 3 doesn't have a full size spare...

    The OP said he had a 2008, which doesn't have a full sized spare.

    I've checked the pressure in all the tires fairly regularly, and kept them all as close to the same as I could.

    Unfortunately, it does look like I'll be shopping for tires soon, and I'll be looking through all the different threads on that to find a better alternative. I'm just worried about this uneven tread wear happening again. The only thing I can think of that's different about the left rear tire location is that is where the gas tank is located. But, wouldn't that extra weight cause *more* wear instead of less?

    The only logical explanation would have been low tire pressure at that tire, could it be possible it was low for even a short period? It wouldn't take much on original tires from what I've read, (they're not lasting very long).

    Well, I thought I kept up with the tire pressure pretty good, but there's always a chance. I'm definitely not perfect (not even close). And, yeah, I'm really disappointed in the factory tires, but it's very clear that I'm far from being the only one. The factory tires on my mothers 4runner lasted much longer than this. I suppose this is one of Honda's ways of cutting costs.

    The fill nozzle is there, but the tank itself sits in the center of the CR-V. Here's a picture of the fuel tank components.

    Thank for all the info, I suppose I'll be more diligent about checking tire pressures when I get new tires. And, now I know where the gas tank is

    One more question: They rotated and balanced the tires, and now I've noticed more road noise. It's not severe, but I can feel it a bit in the steering wheel and gas pedal, as well as hear it. It only seems to happen between 40 and 50mph. I haven't noticed any difference at highway speeds yet. Would this have to do with the different tread on what is now the right front tire? Or could it have to do with the re-balancing? Or, could it be something else?

    Again, this is not severe, just annoying. The car still steers straight and handles properly. Thanks in advance for any feedback!
