    Default 05 CR-V won't start

I have a 2005 CR-V with 30k miles. This morning, after a cold Chicago night, the car won't start. All that happens is the dashboard lights come on, and the indicator needles (speedometer, etc.) just shake rapidly back and forth (with a vary rapid tick-tick-tick sound).

I tried jump starting the car from a battery pack I have, connecting the + to the battery and the - to the indicated location (as best as I could tell) from the owner's manual (also tried just the frame of the car for the -. The battery definitely functions, but nothing different happens.

I think the car battery still works because the interior lights work, the cd does eject (though nothing shows on the radio display).

    Any ideas?

    Sounds like a dead battery.

Is the battery original? If it is, sounds like it is time for a replacement.

Sears DieHard batteries are a fantastic choice.

AAA guy came and measured 26 cold cranking amps, out of a total of 410 rated. He attached a charger which woke up the car in seconds (all I had was a little jump starting battery!).

How long should I keep the car running?

And is it time to replace the original battery -- 4 years old?

Yes, it is definitely time to change the battery. Sears DieHard.

You should drive the car around for at least a half hour, and IMMEDIATELY go to Sears and buy a battery.

One of the things I have to do today for my 1999 CR-V is get a new battery.

It's so dead it wouldn't even unlock the doors with the remote.

Only 30K on an 05? I'm less than 100 miles away from 80,000 on my 05. I'm lamenting having to buy a new battery, but I know it's time. It sounded really weak on a cold morning the other day. It's going to get really cold this coming week.

My 2006 CR-V is just now approaching 43,000 miles.
It all depends on your driving habits.

I was thinking of going to Costco to get a new one -- Sears is a bit far away. Ok for the V?

Yup, I only do city driving. Love my 15-20 minute commute.

Never changed a battery before. Is it fairly easy?

Some people swear by DieHards, but the last battery I bought was a cheap no-name store brand and it's done quite well for the past 4 or so years.
It was a little more than 1/2 the cost of a DieHard.

Yes, it's fairly easy. Just remember to remove the ground/negative cable first and make sure it is tucked out of the way and can't swing back and touch the terminal. Then disconnect the positive and tuck it out of the way.

You will need the Radio Code if you still have your Honda headunit.

Follow the procedure Racoon said and bring tools to do it in the parking lot. Most of the time you are charged a deposit or core charge that you get refunded when you return the old one proper disposal. Or better yet find a place that will replace it for you for free.
