Honda Post Icon 2007 Honda Pilot LX Towing Capacity

Ok! Well its been 2.5 Years since I have had my Honda Pilot. When I bought this I was between Honda Pilot and Toyota Tacoma 4 Door Pick up truck. Since I had an Accord before I never made it to the Toyota Dealership. I think I went too cheap buying the LX version. Honda's sticker price of almost 30K is not justifiable. 4 speakers, wimpy radio. Poor interior center dash illumination are just some of my gripes. Another is the poor qaulity of interior fabric, it attracts every bit of stains and they do not wanna come off, I have tried a lot of things, it seems the only thing possible is steam clean it.

Now I have been looking for a full size spare (I have tire but need a rim). I have also been thinking of installing a Tow Hitch. I have a motorcycle that weighs about 450 LBS (wet weight), so I believe I should be able to tow it with a 3.5 liter 250HP motor without adding transmission and steering coolers etc.

The owners manual does not list it but I suppose an eight passenger vehicle approximately at 200 lbs a person should be able to handle 1600lbs without any cooler etc. Maybe that is not how it works but I thought it may. I was thinking of getting a hidden hitch direct mount kit to install in the vehicle.

Does anyone agree with me that this vehicle should be able to tow at least some things without cooler etc.? Cause if I need to spend another $1000 bucks just to tow then maybe this vehicle was not the best choice. BTW my salesman was in idiot, I realised it when it was too late. Side way conversation.

Do Chime in I would like to think others think the way I do, and now Honda in the 2009 Pilots adverstize 1000lbs standard towing capacity with same engine ???????????????

Pilots can tow up to 4500 pounds.

You don't need a cooler for such an incredibly lightweight trailer...

2007 Pilot Owners Manual page 215 has the tow ratings table.

The maximum trailer weight is 4,500 lbs for a boat trailer, or 3,500 lbs for other kinds of trailers, (with trans and power steering fluid coolers) with up to four passengers, but the towable weight drops as you add more passengers.

I have read the manual and know about the coolers etc. But Was wondering if actually someone has real life experiece of towing with an LX model without coolers etc and any issues. I am not planning to tow 3500 lbs. More about a 1000 to 1200 lbs at the max.

No one can answer as the failures likely from not having coolers are going to typically happen long after you tow.

LX and EX are the same mechanically. The Odyssey used to say you could tow 1000 or 1500 without coolers. Honda retracted that (my guess is because of too many failures showing up)
(or too hard to tell if the towing was under or over the limit when a warranty claim was made.)

You are fine without a cooler for towing something so light.

OK so I ordered a hitch today, a Curt Class III hitch for Honda Pilot. I got a pretty good deal, 150 shipped for a brand new piece from Autoanything.com, they were pretty nice to deal with. Now the next step would be to install the cooler package before I actually tow anything. I was wondering if anyone has tried to install the coolers themselves. My level of messing with cars is pretty decent I believe, just never done it before. Local dealers wants 500 bucks for parts and installation and it may be worth the money (cuz original parts are almost 350) and removing the front bumper and installing the coolers and reinstalling the bumper may take me 3 hours or. Let me know if anyone has tried to DIY this task.
