    Question valve Clearance Help

valve Clearance on a 1998 cr-v Es, the hand book maintenance schedule tells you to check it, but all the people that I know that have a CR-V said they have never had it checked, so was it just the imports to uk that needed checking and not the uk spec?

Just type the phrase 'burnt valves' into the search engine and you'll get the whole story, from begining to end.

Short version: Your friends are lucky and the North American version of the Owner's Manual is incorrect.

Do a search as it's been a HUGE topic of conversation around here over the years. How many miles on your '98? Are you the original owner?

The valves should be adjusted every 30,000 miles on the B20 engine. Honda steered everyone wrong on this so consider yourself lucky as hell if you don't have any damage if you're over 100,000 miles.

If you have the 1st Gen (mark 1) CR-V then you should have the B20 engine, regardless of where your CR-V was assembled. You should adjust your vavles.

Hi, No i'm not the original owner i just got my CR-V a week ago with 78,000 on the clock, it sounds like it's going to cost alot of money to have this checked?

No, not a lot, here it seems to costs folks $80-$100. Very simple task to take on if you're the least bit mechanical, about 1/2 to 3/4 hr.

yeah, what costs the mucho moolah is having them fixed if you don't have them adjusted properly. Its the exhaust valves that are really important (closest to the front of the car), and unlike most cars, tend ot tighten over time.

If a guy is only the 'least bit' of a mechanic, it would take about two hours start to finish. There's also lots of stuff under there to distract a fella.

The shops seem to charge 1 - 1.5 hours, so it ain't cheap.
