Default Need help on removing the right rear door actuator on my 2003 Pilot EX

My 2003 Pilot rear right door won't lock/unlock. I confirmed there is power using a test meter. I searched the forum and found the problem could be a bad lock actuator. I can't seem to figure out how to remove the actuator assembly. I found this thread http://www.hondasuv.com/members/showthread.php?t=26046 but the diagram is different than mine (the attached diagram is the correct one). I followed the step-by-step guide but couldn't do step 5 since it's different than mine. I think all I need is to figure out how to remove the rod connected to the door handle. This is the wiggle like rod right next to part #1/10 on the attached diagram. Any instruction/pictures on how to remove the actuator assembly would be greatly appreciated.

I know that on the Gen 1, which I had apart just 2 weeks ago, you just use a set of diagonal cutters or needle nose pliers to gently put pressure on the connection while wiggling it. The metal rod will then pop out of the plastic retainer. The service manual says REPLACE the plastic part after that, but mine seemed just as tight the second and third times I took it apart.

Does the 'wiggle rod' plug into the plastic retainer #11 ?

Yes, the wiggle rod is connected to the plastic retainer. I'll give it a try.

    Thanks for the help, Curly.

Default Steps to remove the right rear door lock actuator assembly on my 2003 Honda Pilot EX

With Curly suggestion, I successfully removed and replaced the bad lock actuator on my 2003 Pilot. The part costs about $37 if you order on-line at San leandro Honda and specify Will Call to pick it up in person. Otherwise, it costs more at the parts counter. I found all the information and help I needed to fix my problem on this site. There are so many DIY solutions here if you're willing to search, read, and get your hand dirty. I save at least $100 today.

Here are the steps I took to replace my actuator by referencing the part # on the diagram. I hope it helps the next person with the same problem.

    1) Remove the 3 screws holding the door lock assembly (part #16/27) located on the side of the door.
    2) Remove the assembly (part #21) holding the lock handle. Just pull it out using a screw driver.
    3) Remove the rod (part #23) from the retainer by lifting the cap (part #18 holding the rod upward or downward.
    4) Remove the inner door handle rod (part #22/31) from the retainer by lifting the cap (part #1/10) holding the rod upward or downward. Now, the only thing holding the lock assembly is the wiggly rod (right next to part #1/10).
    5) Remove the wiggly rod from the retainer by lifting the cap (above part #40 which connects to part #11/15) upward, the cap should pop up using a screw driver, then remove the rod by wiggling it using a plier or screw driver.
    6) The lock assembly should be free now. To make more room to get the lock assembly out, I removed part #25/32 by popping it out, just use the screw driver and wiggle it, this part just snaps in/out.
    7) Remove the lock assembly from the door by lowing it to the open space on the door.
8- Remove the screw (part #2), then lift up the metal plate cover.
    9) Remove the lock actuator by releasing the 2 side locks holding it in place. Itís very easy, just use a screw driver and release the lock one side at a time. Once the locks are released, just pull the actuator out.
    10) To re-assembled, just reverse the steps.

    Good Luck and Happy Fixing!!!

You can look that up online at Majestic Honda or San Leandro Honda.

Impact screw driver is what you need.
