Default Thinking about 01 CRV with 200k miles

My local toyota dealer has a used 2001 Honda CRV with 200,000 miles (auto, 4x4). I wanted to get opinions on whether it would be worth it. It's selling for $6k, which seems like a lot of money for something with 200k miles, but that price actually seems reasonable according to bluebook.

I just got done looking at a 96 toyota rav4 with only 91k miles for a little less money. Although, I took it to a mechanic and being from the midwest it was ready to start having major rust problems in the not too distant future. So I really like the fact that this is an 01 as far as rust goes. But how reliable are the engines? I've certainly seen lots of people say they goto 200k miles, but how far do they really go? 200k then problems? It would not be a daily driver. It would a second car for winter bad weather and an occasional trip, probably sitting in the garage most of the time.

    Just want some opinions. Thanks.

Is there any way to discover if it's had the valves adjusted regularly(every 30,000 miles)? I'm guessing it's been done at least a couple of times since it's made it to 200,000 miles. Yeah, $6000 seems rather high to me as well but I don't pretend to keep up with Blue Book values. I plan to keep my '98 for quite awhile longer and I recently sold my '88 Accord several months ago(with 265,000 miles...the engine still pulled like a champ).

I have 164,000 miles on the odometer and it still runs great. Someone on here is approaching 300,000 miles but I can't remember who it is.

The quirks with the 1997 - 2001 generation of CR-Vs is as follows:

    1. The valves must be adjusted every 30,000 miles to the loose side of the tolerances instead of every 105,000 miles. -Search burnt valves
    2. The transmission fluid should be drained & filled every 30,000 miles.
    3. the same goes for the rear differential.

Assume that the person who owned it before did not maintain the vehicle properly and change out all the fluids (or get it in writing from the seller that it has been done). The timing belt should have been changed as well as the water pump (the pumps have a reputation of failing at 150K). If they have not been done, have them changed out as well as the timing belt idler pully. It's a job to get at these so might as well change everything out while you are there as a CYA type thing. That should cover all the big stuff. Check the accessory drive belts and hoses as well to see if they are worn or weak. Some dealers will dress the hoses with floor wax to make them look nice so pay attention.

Yea,, 6K is way to much for a V with 200,000 miles.

6k is about what my 2000 with 121,000 miles is worth.

kbb.com says retail value (what a dealer would sell it for) of a 2001 LX RT4WD automatic is $9,275 when in "excellent" condition.
kbb.com says my 1999 CR-V EX 5 speed manual with 103,000 is worth $9,250 if it were in "excellent" condition.

edmunds.com lists the retail value of the 2001 equipped as above at $8,421 (-$1,938 adjustment for mileage, in "outstanding" cond).
edmunds.com values my CR-V at $8,668 (no adjustment for mileage, in "outstanding" condition).

I would sell my 99 with 154k miles for $6500 without a second thought. It is very nice and has been well maintained. (Check forum) What does that tell you about the price of the one you are looking at?

Yeah, I agree I don't think it is worth $6k... My guess with the bluebook, is that it uses an algorithm based on miles that doesn't take into account ridiculously high miles...

    Thanks for the input.
