    Default ABS LIGHT Stays on

    Ok so I searched, then a paged through the first 10pages of this thread and didn't find anything.

    My ABS light is stuck on and won't go off. As a result I replaced my front brakes but that didn't fix it. I've also tapped off my brake fluid with Honda DOT3 brake fluid, but still the light stays on. Anyone know why? Could it be my rear drums?

    Sounds like there's a code in the module, but I thought CEL would go off too.

    Anyone got a gen1 helms?

    Did you check for a burnt fuse Jean?

    The ABS light is an indication there is a problem with one of the wheel sensors or the ABS main computer, nothing to do with brake pad life or brake shoes. With the light on there is a code stored in the ABS system, nothing to do with the Check Engine light. Right now you have traditional brakes, they will not pump on their own as long as the light is on. There is a way of pulling codes from the system using the ABS light itself and it's flash sequence. The service check connecter is on the passenger side of the console, there is a device to plug into this to put it into diagnostic mode and the light on dash will flash which are translated into codes. I think this unit that plugs into the vehicle's service connecter basically jumps across the two terminals, that's how it was on my last vehicle, I could be wrong with CR-V, use to use a paper clip to pull codes on my Olds. You can always check connection and wires at the wheel sensors themselves, usually the problem.

    Ernie good question, I will check the fuse when I get home!! (changed your avatar photo already?)

    I'm going to look up these wheel sensors you mentioned wrenchingaround. I have read a little something about manually resetting the ABS with bridging two connections that are by the ECU. I'm a little worried about that since I've never heard of it before, but I will also take a look at that. However I didn't know the ABS system is separate from the main ECU.

    Most important question you haven't answered yet:

    What happens with the light if you start the engine and just sit on the driveway for a minute, does the light stay OUT until the vehicle starts to move? That's how you narrow it down to a sensor or the pressure system.

    Sorry, when the car is just started the light comes on and stays on - even after shifting and driving. Doesn't blink or anything. Just solid light on. Sensor problem or pressure system?

    More likely a connection, since the system doesn't poll the sensors until the vehicle starts to move. Thats' why I asked that question.

    Time to check all the fuses and connectors under the hood for corrosion.

    SEARCHING should dredge up something, although the GEN 1 ABS is virtually bulletproof . . . And 'ABS' doesn't SEARCH because it's a three-letter word.
