    yep, clutch disc, pressure plate, release bearing....they come as a kit.
    I bought the V a couple of months ago, its an 01 with 66 000 kms on it. It is a single-owner car, and obviously someone who didnt drive it a lot...or know how to drive a manual transmission.

    Right now the clutch feels stiff at the pedal (hard to push...which sucks in stop-and-go and city traffic). The engagement point is also at the top of the pedal (which is generally a sign of wear) though I believe there is some adjustability of the engagement point at the pedal. its not like the old cable-actuated clutches where you could just tighten the cable a bit.

    My other car, a 98 Accord, had a similar feeling clutch when i bought it and I replaced it (er...the disc, pressure plate and release bearing...and machined the flywheel) and the difference at the pedal was dramatic (the effort to push in the clutch was cut in half!). Before that we had a '90 Accord and same deal, though that time the clutch felt grabby due to a glazed flywheel. Machining the FW and replacing the disc made the car a pleasure to drive again....though getting the transmission out of the engine compartment and onto the ground was a bear of a task...we had to remove much of the passenger side steering and suspension system...the 98 was much easier

    Anyway, the other issue is that there is a chirping noise coming from the clutch area. When it is engaged (ie. whenever the pedal is not depressed) it kinda sounds like a chirping fan belt but its coming from the other side of the engine. When driving with the windows down it sounds just like crickets chirping in the ditch. However, when you push the clutch pedal just a hair (less than 1 cm) the noise totally disappears. Theory is that there is some metal to metal contact...something to do with the release bearing....this is the opinion of my brother-in-law who is a well-respected auto and airplane mechanic.

    A new OEM clutch kit and the rear main seal (oil seal) are about 250$ CAD, plus about a day's labour for me....I could keep driving it the way that it is, but i know that it could be a whole lot better. And i won't have to do it again for as long as i own the car (I am easy on clutches....my wife not so much but she drives the Accord mostly.)

    Anybody else had to replace the 'clutch' in a V?, it looks about the same deal as the Accord

    Ugh, that sucks. Mine is a pleasure to use . . . Easy throw, and lots of room for engagement. I *think* that's the synchro I can feel . . . I can use a little or a lot of room to "speed up" the engine before full engagement. This makes downshifting from a high speed much more doable without jerking you around.

    I knew i was in for a clutch job when i bought the car...it was priced accordingly. I am actually looking forward to doing it, since its my 3rd Honda clutch, there shouldn't be too many surprises....i hope

    Yeah that was the big problem with the clutch on the '90 Accord, downshifting was a nightmare...waaaayy too grabby.

    I assume you replaced the clutch fluid when you replaced the clutch?

    Actually, since the clutch fluid is really brake fluid, it should be changed/flushed when the brakes are done (every three (3) years).

    I have not experienced a clutch grabbing early as you describe, only slipping (on a previous vehicle), so I don't have any "knowledge" to impart.

    My throw out bearing does the same thing. It has been like that for some time and I'm not sure if it is a concern or not. Unfortunately, the only remedy I can think of is to drop the transmission and change it out since it is a sealed bearing. The noise has not gotten worse, so I've been letting it slide (though whether that is wise or not, is another issue).

    Default clutch fluid....

    Well i suppose i should do that too!
    And while i am at it, i might as well do the brake fluid,
    And the fuel filter
    And the cabin air filter
    and the rear differential fluid
    and the ......the list goes on, whew

    Chances are that i will not be replacing the clutch fluid at this time but its a good idea. I think it can be done with everything intact (ie. nothing has to be removed to bleed the clutch system) so its not like replacing the rear main seal (which i am doing) when doing the clutch or the waterpump when doing the timing belt.

    The list never ends to the OCD CR-V owner.

    Doing the clutch bleeding is a pain from the stand point of the reservoir being so small. It is VERY easy to introduce air into the system because of it. The piece of mind part is that with a properly flushed system, no corrosion or contaminates will cause your slave or master cylinder to expire earlier.

    There is a slim possiblilty that there is some slipping....I notice when accelerating in 2nd gear from about 1200 to 2500 rpm that there is a bot of a shuddering. I think its mostly felt in the gas pedal. Initially i thought is was an ignition problem (eg. misfiring under high load) but it only happens in 2nd gear.

    Anyhow, Usually clutch slippage manifest itself while climbing hills ( you see the rpms climb but not the spedo). If it so worn that its slipping, gearing down will reduce the amount of torque that the engine has over the transmission (or is it vice versa?).

    My brother-in-law/mechanic says that it is probably not an issue; safetywise or otherwise. The clutch parts should be in by the end of the week and i will be starting the job on the weekend/ next week. I will post once i get the tranny on the floor.
