Default Maintenance Minder Codes and Notes

This is for the 2006 Hondas, but the CR-V should be similar. It is a great description of how the Maintenance Minder works and what it does.

Read it carefully. Note that it also tells you when to change the rear diff fluid!

This is from the September 2005 Honda Service News, pages 6 and 7 are what you want.

    Thumbs up

Again, good info for folks to read.

    One quick question...

Does anyone who changes the oil themselves ever follow the recommendation of the MMS system and only change the oil and NOT the filter when the "A" comes up as service due? A filter seems like cheap insurance and a foolish thing to skip.

My assumption is that Honda engineers have discovered that their super clean burning engines with tighter than other car maker tolerances contaminate the oil so slowly that the oil filter simply doesn't need changing as often.

One cannot compare their (insert favorite junk car name here) 1980 Ford Crown Victoria's engine characteristics to a new 2007 Honda. If you are a frequent visitor to bobistheoilguy.com you will have read that people that are paying for oil analysis are discovering that the engineers seem to be right. Imagine that.

    Exclamation

Both 1st and 2nd Gen CR-V maintenance schedules also recommend changing the oil filters every other oil change.

I still have my oil filter changed every time.
