Thread: No reminder beep/tone/chime when lights on?

Default No reminder beep/tone/chime when lights on?

    Hi Everyone.

2005 CRV LX, front wheel drive.

Recently I noticed the reminder beep (or tone or chime) that sounds when the driver door is opened and the lights are on (or the key is in the ignition) no longer sounds.

I ran the diagnostic in the service manual, the beeper sounds 5 times, even if I am not sure this is the same beeper or system.

Coincidental or not, I noticed this a few days after uneventful replacement of the engine and cabin air filters.

Thanks for any advice or hints.

There has recently been a few posts about this going out but on older V's. I don't recall anyone posting what the resolution ever was. I assume your 2005 is still under warranty?

    Thank you mdugan7000.

Yes, it's under warranty. I just hoped it might be something simple.

I'll listen on this thread for a few days. If nothing comes up, I can always call the dealer.

Oh yeah, the dome light turns on/off with the door opening/closing, so the door switch seems to work.

If you are curious, try a search using headlight and warning. I just did it. Quite a few posts on the issue, but again, mainly on older 2nd gens.

I had the exact same thing happen on my 2006 EX. With mine, there was a broken switch on the drivers door. It was fixed in about 3 minutes by my dealer. The tech said that because of where the switch is located, the seat belt can (if not fully retracted) break it when the driver door is closed, forcing the belt against the switch. To locate the switch, open the drivers door and look in the area where the back of the door touches. It is a "push button" type switch.

yes, if the door switch is broken or disconnected, the system doesn't know when the driver's door is open, so it doesn't beep about keys in ignition or lights left on. fixing or reconnecting the switch is simple R&R.
however, 1 of the advantages of leaving it disconnected is that you can listen to the radio while the door is open and not have the annoying beep. 1 of the disadvantages is that the dome light won't come on when the driver's door is opened. that's a good excuse to travel w/ a friend. <grin>

For the buzzer to go off, couple of things have to happen.

    1) Lights are on

    2) Keys out of ignition

    3) Driver's door is open.

First thing I want to say is that this group was quick to help me figure out my light alert beep problem. I read the forum after finding the group from a Google Search. Sure enough as one post stated, the problem that I frequently had with my driver side seat belt obviously caused the problem with the "push button" on the driver door that is linked to the alert tone. After a bit of "fiddling" with it, I was able to get the alert tone to work. I think as mention in the post, the Seat belt would get caught in my door when I would close it and obviously now I know it had "bent" the switch. Thanks for the great info. I'm a member now!

    Re: seatbelt

Is it not retracting well enough? I ask because I was told that this is a safety concern (retraction is part of the belt logic) and it should be fixed.

The guys here said it's under the lifetime warranty.
