That's a pretty low aspect ratio. With the bad bumps inherent in winter driving, I would go with a much higher (like 70+) and a narrower tire. Narrow is good in snow, so is taller. With low temps and bad bumps, you can easily bend a wheel with not a lot of effort. Check tirerack.com for some options.

Since that tire size you mention isn't real common I would guess that a set of winter tires would be more expensive than a standard size tire and spare rims. Something like a 215/70/16 is a pretty common truck tire size that would have lots of options.

    according to tire rack:

Michelin Alpin $137 each in your size

    General Grabber AT2 in 225/75/16 is $74. ( half price ! )

true but what should i do? i get new steel rims but should i downsize it to like 15" rims and then do the calculation to get the right circuferance of the original? so speed and abs stuff work or stay same size rim and tire size but steel rims

You'll get four tires + rims, so ABS won't care, but you may have to suffer with an incorrect speedo during the winter months.

Well worth the safety gains, not to mention spending time stuck.

I am assuming you have a 2006 CR-V based on your name. If that is the case, you have already deviated from the original size so I wouldn't worry so much about that. As long as all 4 tires are the same size, your ABS, All wheel drive, etc will work fine. I was just suggesting that a more mainstream size snow tire might save you a little money.

The original size tires on a 2006 would have been 215/65/16 with a diameter of 27.0 inches. You can't go to a 15 inch rim because they won't fit over the brakes on the 2005/6 model year.

before we go on too much further, please make it clear for which vehicle you're looking for tires.

    CR-V or Civic Si?

some of the previous recommendations appear more tailored to CR-Vs than Si's. this is the CR-V forum, after all.

in general, taller narrower softer tires are better for winter, but what is tall for a Civic may not be so tall for a CR-V.

Check out tirerack.com for a winter tire/wheel package. They will come mounted and balanced - all you do is put them on the car. Saves lots of time and agravation that way.
