Thread: CRV Gas Spills

    Default CRV Gas Spills

Hi, has anyone ever encountered having gas spill out when filling up the tank? Just this week, when filling up from two different Chevron stations I was surprised when gas overflowed from my tank. It used to be that the pump nozzle would automatically shut off when my tank was filled up. I also noticed that a few weeks ago no air came out whenever I removed the lid on my tank which was odd. And now the spilling over happens whenever I fill up my tank. I'm not sure if there's a connection somewhere since I'm not familiar with how the nozzle detects if the tank is full or not.

    1. is this happening at the same station same pump?

thee is a flap it is mising that will not be the cause?

make sure the nozzle of the pump is fully inside the cap?

I have no other answers but

try pumping the gas and let it go slow let it go medium let it go fast.

and better get it all on film b/c honda wil not help you out if you got no proof that's my opinion

Pure coincidence. The shut-offs rely upon a pressure difference to "detect" a tank full situation. They are not infallable by any means. Just be glad you don't live in a state where they have the vapor recovery system. When those fail to detect that your tank is full, they keep on pumping - right back into the station's underground tank so they can resell the gas you just paid for to the next guy!

ps - That "little flap" where the nozzle goes into your tank is simply a holdover from the early 70's when unleaded fuel first came out. It's sole purpose was to prevent you from sticking the larger diameter leaded nozzle into your unleaded fuel only vehicle. It also prevents you from putting diesel, which has an even larger diameter nozzle than the old leaded fuel into your tank. In other words, it has ZERO effect on anything.
