Default Uniroyal Liberator A/T tires at Wal-Mart - good for SNOW?

I just returned from S.Dakota (-17 F) and into an ice storm when I got home to TX. I have Michelin X-Radial 205/75/15 on my gen 2 CRV and love them for long highway trips in the summer and even in the rain, but not enough bite for snow. Im heading up to CO and WY next so Im thinking of a more aggressive tread. Wal-Mart has their Uniroyal Liberator A/T 205/75/16 for $52 each. The tread design looks decent. Has anyone used these in snow? I will take them off this spring. Im looking for a tire that I can get at Wal-Mart or Sam's Club.

PS: Can 215/75/15 's fit? Is the wider tire an advantage on snowy county roads? I do a lot of interstate driving followed by trips out to farms and ranches in the winter to visit job sites. I have to keep in mind that I will rack up 5K of interstate driving during the next month, so I have to keep gas mileage in mind.

My 2002 CRV is 2 WD. I recently rented a Jeep Liberty and loved the jeep's 4WD - it was remarkable!

    Thanks,
    da Pup

No, a wider tire is a disadvantage during snow/ice. Unless it's studded.

That makes sense - the weight is spread over less area, so the tire should really bite better.

Default Snow tires - Liberators from Wal-Mart Honda CR-V

    205/70/15, 225/70/15, or the 215/75/15.
These seem to be the realistic size options.

Default Does the CR-V have full-time 4WD like a Jeep?

...They didnt have any CR-Vs to rent, only Jeep Liberties and Hyndai Sante-Fe's and the Jeep had more room for my gear in big air cases.

    About the CR-V 4WD: does the CR-V have full-time 4WD like a Jeep?

Back to the tires, Im going for the Liberators at 205/75/15 size as there is some great pricing.

CR-V 4 wheel drive like a Jeep? No.

To keep it simple, the Cr-V uses a part-time system. The rear wheels only kick in if it detects the fronts moving faster than the rears and then kicks back out after they are equalized again. So, its kinda part-time. Works ok in lower snowfall amounts where it isn't needed 100% of the time. The newer model years have improved upon the system in that it has a quicker "kick-in" or reaction time when slippage is detected.
