Hi All,
It's been a while! Several months back, I commented that I thought my V sounded like an RC car. What I have since realized is that it only sounds like this for about 6 minutes on cold mornings, and the sound I'm hearing is very similar (although not as intense, due to the fact that I don't usually drive in reverse to go places) to the sound that emanated from my car while powering (backwards) out of a very sticky situation a couple weeks back, in which I know the AWD was engaged. So I'm now starting to think that the RC sound is actually my AWD being engaged, regardless of the fact that there is no slippage to trigger it. Lending further to my theory is that every morning I have to stop and start at the top of very steep, often damp hill with a man hole cover that my front wheels almost always slip on, except on cold mornings when I am hearing this sound. Then there is no slippage what-so-ever. So I guess my questions are:

A) Does the AWD have a feature that makes it kick in at low-temps automatically? (Weird, but possibly useful I guess)

B) Is the whining sound normal for the AWD system or should I have it checked out? It's not grating or even a very worrying sound, it's just there.

Thanks in advance!

I just sold my 2010 CRV for personal reason.

Right now I have 2 good toys to sell to members.

1. Chinese GPS system. I got it here http://www.autodvdgps.com/honda-crv-...ook-p-781.html

Asking $350 ($300 + $50 shipping). If you can pickup from zip 23060 then $300. Since I have the car for about 6 months, this unit is completely new and no damage or scratch. Free chinese crv backup camera.

2. Retrofitted bi-xenon projector headlight done by lightwerkz in perfect condition with LS460 projector and len swap. It costs me a fortune to get it done (projector $400, bi-xenon harness $50, grand new OEM headlight Left $201 and right $201, labor $400). Now I am selling for $800. So you only pay for projector and OEM headlight. You can sell your stock headlight to recover some cost. I throw in free bi-xenon wiring harness and give you HID D2S bulb 5000K, but NO ballast (I keep it as my backup). Shipping is $50. You can pickup to reduce cost if live nearby.
5..Gen3, Parents have a 2007 EX Auto
If one wants to get super technical, we are missing the Gen 1 with the less powerful engine, but outside of that, we got it covered.

1998 CR-V EX started to give off faint electrical smoke. Later, both headlights failed to activate but the smoke went away. The left one always had a problem with the ground. Now the right one was failing to activate. Jiggling the plastic block sometimes helped.

I inspected both wiring harnesses - the plastics have just about completely disintegrated. One terminal clip on the right headlight (probably low-beam) detached.

I'm thinking about replacing the wire harness for both headlights myself. I'm looking at eBay auctions 350234688323 and 180408393474 for replacements.

Any thoughts on the replacement process? I remember having a very hard time pinching the two clips together on the original harness head just to get them off the bulb. I'm wondering whether I'll have the same hard time with these aftermarket replacements.

I don't even know if I'll need other parts to complete this task. I'm hoping the other end of the harness is a simple plug-and-pray procedure.

Thanks for reading!

Wondering if the Speaker Adapters used for the Gen2 CRV will work on the Gen3 CRV.

From the photo in the below thread, the speaker tabs looks the same.

The specific speaker adapter in question - Scosche SAH6

I installed some Polk MM651 in the rear doors this weekend and had a hell of a time. Tried to use some 1" Metra speaker spacers, but the door panel would not fit back on. I ended up having to cut of the "bumps" in the speaker hole using my dremel and mounted the speakers directly to the door.

I'm planning on install the Polk MM6501 in the front doors and wondering if the Scosche speaker adapter will save me from having to cut the bumps off.

Thanks.

For sale is a brand new fog light harness kit for a 2002-2006 Gen2 Honda CR-V. It is not OEM but OEM-like, so it will fit directly in the pre-wired CR-V. That would probably be a perfect fit for someone’s looking to install aftermarket fog lights (or any kind of auxiliary lights).

It includes:

Fog light harness

Switch harness (with built-in fuse)

Relay

Switch button*

*The switch clips well in a dashboard lower cover openings (after removing a switch lid), but the push button itself will probably be too tight to move free. So options are: you buy an OEM switch from Honda (fits directly with the harness connector); you trim just a little bit the inside corners of the switch opening so the button can come back after pushing it; you make your own switch. Anyway, the switch will be there in the package.

I installed one exactly like this myself in my 2005 CR-V, so I can probably help you if you have questions about the installation, but it's pretty easy and straightforward.

I’m asking 35$ and that includes the shipping to anywhere in Canada & US.

***************************

I also have brand new silver covers for the 2005-2006 CR-V fog lights. These are normally fixed to the bumper with screws not included.

Those would be 30$ with the shipping.

Rodent Deterrent Tape for Wire Harnesses
Got a vehicle with a chewed-up wire harness? It’s probably the work of rodents, and if it is . . . Honda parts stock
has just the thing to deal with it:
Rodent-Deterrent Tape (P/N 4019-2317).
After repairing or replacing the harness, wrap some of that tape around the affected area. It's got capsaicin, the
stuff that puts the fire in a bowl of five-alarm chili. This should keep any critters from causing future problems.
When wrapping the harness, use the method we refer to as half-wrapping. Each time you wrap the tape around the
harness, overlap the layer you just did by half the width of the tape.

Here is an internal (written for Honda dealer technicians) TSB on proper alternator testing. If you read through the lines, it would seem that due to the newer design of the alternator and ELD, only Honda dealers might be able to properly test an alternator, meaning that your local auto parts place that offers free testing might not be up to the job?

I have copied a small portion of the text for those on dial-up.
Service Manual Update: Alternator Testing

BACKGROUND
American Honda is currently developing new
equipment and procedures for testing alternators and
starters. Until this equipment is released, please use
the following information.
Do not use the ED-18 for testing alternators because it
will misjudge the charging system performance on
some models, leading to the unnecessary replacement
of good parts. To properly test alternators, use one of
the following tools:
• OTC Tester - Includes the following testers:
OTC 3130, OTC 3130 AGM, OTC 3131, and
OTC 3131 AGM
• ARBST
• VAT40
If you do not have one of these tools, the OTC tester is
available through the special tool loan program. For
more information about the loan program, refer to
S/B 98-051, Special Tool Loan Program.
Honda vehicles use an electronic load detection (ELD)
circuit in the charging system to reduce fuel
consumption. The alternator has two modes; low
output and high output. When the vehicle is cruising
and there is a light electrical load, the alternator
switches to the low output mode that produces about
12.5 V and low amperage. When the vehicle load
increases (the customer turns on the headlights, the
seat heaters, the rear defroster, etc.), the alternator
switches to the high output mode that raises the
voltage and amperage.

******

There is a nice chart in the TSB that shows the amperage load specifications for each model/year of Honda.

The special tool loan program is ONLY for dealerships.
Honda used to (and may still) have a tool loan program for individuals.
I would contact your local dealer and inquire.
