Hello: I'm a longtime lurker, first-time poster. My wife and I just picked up our 2005 Pilot EX NBP last Tuesday. We love the car, but I noticed that the paint on the liftgate jamb on the driver's side (right above the tail-light) seems to be rough and uneven. I cannot tell if it's a function of Honda's manufacturing process, or if it's a repair that the dealer made without disclosing it to me. I've attached the picture below. I'll also post a picture of the passenger side for comparison. I'd really appreciate it if someone (or, ideally, more than one) could look at their pilot and tell me if mine is a unique problem or just a feature of all pilots. I'd like to be armed with as much information as possible before I go hauling off to the dealer. To all the Good Samaritans who respond, many manythanks in advance!

And here's the passenger side for comparison. Any thoughts? Many thanks!

It looks pretty much the same... as with my Pilot.
It's a clear rubberized sealant to protect the exposed portion of the
adjoining metal surface from rust and other elements.
You will see this type of protective sealant also inside the walls of your engine compartment where adjoining metals are exposed.
I had the same first impressions too until a Honda Tech told me otherwise.
Just make sure this sealant remains always intact to the metal
surface. It could be a source of rust if removed or damaged.
Hope this post finds you well and in good health.
Enjoy your new Pilot.
