We're likely to buy a CR-V in next couple of weks. Any ideas on how far down dealers will go at the moment and what the mark-up on accessories is?

Also, any clues yet on 2005 changes to be released in November?

I'm sure the dealers make thousands of dollars profit on each car they sell. That's why the markup is typically quite high. For example, several years ago we traded an old car for $8000 only to see it in the lot a week later for $13,990. It was sold within two weeks, so some sucker bought it... or rather were the suckers us for letting it trade so cheap!!

What my friend did when he was shopping for a new CRV was that he wouldn't buy it unless the dealer is prepare to give him the accessories h wanted at dealer cost price and that they had to show him their invoice.

Thanks guys. I was thinking of a similar strategy on accessories and some other dealers have offered 30-50% off dealers list price already. Other thoughts appreciated.

What's your view on torque steer? It does worry me a bit given we live up a steep hill and was very noticeable in test drives. Dealer made no apologies and fair enough given it's a design issue.

You'll learn to live with torque steer, ie. try not to go too fast around corners :)

no news about the whether the changes reported for the 2005 model is coming to Australia or not. My advice would be to buy one now if you need the car because you can definitely get a good deal.

Many dealers are still doing drive a way deals on the V. A workmate of mine just got an Auto Sport Luxury (leather model) for about 40K on the road. This was with side steps, cargo cover and gold emblem kit. Not bad at all I reckon. This works out to be about a 4 or 5k discount.

Thanks Bigdongers

I got 3 quotes from Vic dealers and all came in within a few hundred of each other, with that sort of discount, and up to 50% off accessories.

My main concern is still the torque steer? Is it easy to get used to, or even noticeable when you've been driving the V for a while?

I hope Honda catches up with other manufacturers by offerring side airbags as an option on the 2005 model.

To be honest, I don't really notice the torque steer much at all. When the car is new, the tires are new too and you get decent grip. As the tires got worn, I noticed the fronts struggling a little and sometimes slipped causing the rears to kick in and add to the torque steer effect.

Mind you this only happens when its wet and I am going a little too hard into the corners  Drive normally and the V will reward you with a comfy ride.

We've done the deal. Paid just under $39K on road for luxury sports, with CD stacker, tow pack, pet guard, tinting, extended warranty and other bits and pieces. About $5K under current advertised deals. All up a pretty good price.

My tip for others is do the homework, get some quotes by email (especially interstate) and most dealers should accommodate you and still make money themselves.
