gentlemen.

couldn't resist - went a bit off the road. pictures in advance, not too detailed, because i was behind the wheel and photographing at the same time, but a video will follow in next few days:

http://mrtn.gt.ee/pix/2004/harku_offroad/index.html

it was shot by my friend who has done all the previous videos. warning: good stuff!

got stuck in the sand once because of a miscalculation. what a perfect way to spend a sunday!

we learnt that the original footage is not suffucient for a well flowing clip, so we had another shooting day yesterday to fill the gaps.

the video edit is almost done. meanwhile, pics: http://mrtn.gt.ee/pix/2004/harku_offroad_2/

The camera was attached to various places. On the roof and side shots we used a special suction cup mount, static exterior shots were taken using tripod and moving shots using Steadicam. The entire video was shot on JVC's high definition camera HD-10U. As can be seen from the crappy exposure on some of the shots, I'm still learning the camera :)

The "The making of" can be seen here:

So what kind of damage are you in for...

well... i hope no damage :)

i have acknowledged the fact that fun costs money and broken parts. i did hit a tree when backing up making the last shots, fortunately nothing broke. also, on the 1st descending the exhaust pipe got stuck here:

http://mrtn.gt.ee/pix/2004/harku_offroad/harku_offroad_31.html

the raw torque won here... some paint got scratched but that's offroading and these are the battle marks.

if you're interested, a few pics of my previous offroad adventures:

mrtn, excellent pics but don't you think the HR-V is a little out of its depth here, some of the terrain seems well out of its league. The exhaust catching on the root doesn't suprise me at all as it does hang down low. Surely something with a higher wheel base would be better but of course its 'whatever floats your boat'. No disrespect to the HR-V but there's a limit to everything but full marks if its coping with it. :)

ya that ran through my mind, but hey...

btw: did you come to notice the 4WD engaging while climbing the hill @1:00 minutes?

DIFF_LOCK_CR-V_AWD
12-09-2004, 07:24 AM
ya just when you go past a hole... the rear wheels spin and sand is kinda sprayed back... well now we have proof it works... but does it help?

mrtn
12-09-2004, 07:30 AM
of course it does. even a slight push forward in a difficult situation helps. when i was on a safari i noticed that in places where 2 wheels are literally off the ground diagonally and the machine is about to seize at the spot and the rear axle engages and the car jerks foward even tho there's almost no traction. sometimes this inch gained helps a lot (not talking about a penis enlargement program :))

Wow! Amazing work with the camera! Your buddy must be somewhat of a pro to get those shots. It's almost commerical like.

It's the BEST home video I've ever seen.

Btw, 8 hour download?

It took me less than 2 minutes at work with a T3 line.

Thank you again for all the compliments! :D It was our first non-spontaneus production and definitely a learning experience. There will be more and better videos in the future, we've already bounced around some vague ideas of what do try next. Oh yea, and we'll be more observant for avoiding continuity errors, we had to discard pretty much for one day's worh of footage because we weren't paying attention. Like wearing sunglasses in one scene and not in the next one. Or having mud on tires on shots which were supposed to connect with scenes with clean tires. Stuff like that. See how many continuity errors and goofs you can find. I'm aware of 3 :)

For what it's worth, I'm selling the camera used to make this video on eBay, you can see the listing here (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3859385036) if you're interested.

You should add a link to the HR-V video on the ebay sale - that will sell it like a shot!!

Excellent Filming :D
