I'm new here.

I went on vacation and left my dome light on in my car. My sister called AAA and had the car jumped.
Now my radio doesn't work and I'm getting an 'error 5' on the display.
How can I reprogram my radio without taking it to the dealer.
Thanks for your help
Lori

Hi Lori and welcome to HondaSUV.com.
What year is your V?
Where in the US are you?
Are you the original owner of the V or is it second hand?

The search function at the top of this page will help you as well.
Here's one I found using the advanced search with "radio codes".

LoriQuite simply, you need the radio code. It came with the car on a card, usually stored with the owner's manual - that book in the glove box.
The code was also routinely on stickers, located in various places within the vehicle. Try the glovebox door, inside the fuse box panel, under the hood on the engine bay fuse/relay panel, etc.

My salesman that sold me the V wrote it in my Owner's Manual when we went over it before delivery.

can you tell me your radio station memory is lost or not after you put security code in?

Yes. Battery disconnect will erase it. Just write them down and reprogram.

I thought so too. Even my manual says so but 05/06 does not lose its station memory. 04 loses its memory?

BBQ is right, the 05-06 radio does not lose settings after disconnecting the battery or the radio. I found that weird too. It does require a code.

As to the OP, you have had the car for 3 years and did not read the Owner's Manual?

The codes are listed in the manual, as well as the explanation what the "code" on display means. Time to dig up that manual and get cozy on the couch and read it cover to cover 3-4 times. There will be a quiz. :D

Ok,
I found some numbers that were written on a plastic registration/insurance card holder. 24H1342 and on another part 012630

So, now what do I do? I was sitting in traffic on the way home from work today and was pushing all kinds of buttons adding some of these number and nothing happened. My ERR 5 is gone, now I have a new error - something like COd 3.

My guess is the 012630 is the code I should be using but not sure what the process is.

I'm SURE somebody out there can help me....

Thanks

Yes, we could help. Because you still have not read the manual on HOW to enter the radio code, you entered it too many times and will now have a delay before you can enter it again!

My guess is, your code is the 012630 because the radio only has buttons 1,2,3,4,5,6 to use as numbers.

I was curious so I googled: O

nce you get locked out of the radio you can either leave it on for an hour, or disconnect your battery lead and start over. Once you get back in, you can press the 1 and 6 button at the same time and get your radio serial number. Then you call Honda with that serial number and the VIN and they can give you the code.

Ok,
I confess, I didn't read my manual...but...my intellegent nephew read it while we were driving and he I had to take it to the dealer. I guess he didn't look in the Radio Theft Protection section.
ok..on page 117 of my manual it says its a 5 digit code. 012630 is 6 digits and I don't see any zero's on the radio preset button.
It says to use the preset button to enter the five-digit code

It says:
If you make a mistake (which I obviously did) entering the code, do not start over: complete the 5-digit sequence,(like 12345???) then enter the correct code.. (I'm confused already!!!) You have ten tries to enter the correct code. If you are unsuccessful, (yup) in ten attempts you must then leave the system on for 1 hour before trying again..
So what buttons do a push for the zeros?

See I am trying :~0

How do I leave the system on for 1 hour?? Its only 30 minutes to work :~(

anti-theft radio code is five digits. My serial number is 8 digits.
These two code was given with your owner's manual when you bought the car. It is like credit card size plastic with numbers on it.
If you don't to be bothered searching forums, give your dealer a call and ask code.
When you get code, turn on and the radio will say CODE
If your code is 12345, press 12345 in order. If you make a mistake, the radio will say ERR1 or something. you have 10 chances to try. good luck

The code should be on a credit card sized piece of plastic with Honda logos and saying anti-theft code. As the owner, you are supposed to write it in the appropriate page in the Owner's Manual upon taking delivery, plus you can enter it into your Honda Owner's link page, which will store it for you as well as send you maintenance reminders, recalls, and give you access to your American Honda Finance Corporation's account if you financed with Honda.

What you have is not the radio code. Look in the binder than they gave you with the car, you should have received 2 sets of keys with remotes, and 1 valet key, along with warranty booklet, tire warrant booklet, anti-theft radio code, the Owner's Manual...

Instead of having your nephew read it to you, try to set time aside and familiarize your self with your vehicle. How do you know that you have been operating and maintaining it properly if you have not read "The Book?"

If all fails, you will need to get the radio serial number, give it to your dealer, and if they are nice, they will give you the anti-theft code.

To get the serial number, depending on the radio model, you will either need to take it out and read it off the back of the radio label, or press 1 and 6 before turning it on to read out the serial number on the display.

Good luck.

You need to find the card with the code, or a sticker affixed to something on your vehicle with it....

Then read the manual, front to back....
