We had heard a hissing sound from under the glovebox for some time. The AC slowly died in the process. Taking it to a respected service station, They claimed it to be the expansion valves in the ac, located in the heater box. This means removing the whole dasht o get to it. Has anyone heard of this? any tips?
secondly, we had the all wheel drive button die on us. We will need to get it replaced. Anyone have a spare?

The vehicle is an 03 with 43k miles on it. It is out of warrenty.
The switch i am talking about is the awd switch to the left of the stereo/AV screen. Power is going into the switch but not coming out. The scanners show no issues with the 4wd system. Probably a bad switch.

Have you addressed the AC "hissing" to your Honda dealer? If not, I would bring it in and just say that, "The hissing has been happening for the longest time and I thought that it was normal of all Pilots and didn't think anything of it... Until I noticed that my AC wasn't working anymore... I got my relative who is a mechanic to look into it and he said that there's a leak in the system... a pipe behind the dash...."... Just make up a story and hope that it works out in your favor...
As for the VTM-4 switch... I'm not sure how knowledgable you are in electronics, but if you can pop the switch out and test it with a multimeter... you should be able to determine if it is in fact the switch or not... BTW... I haven't looked, but there may be a fuse for that circuit... Check your fuse panel just incase...
Good luck and please let us know how it goes...

Wow..... 43K miles for the 03 model???? You should try what Red suggested. You have nothing to lose anyway.
Fro VTM4 switch, how would you determine that the switch is bad? If you try to depress the switch while the car is travelling, you will never see the orange light on because VTM will not engage unless your car is in 1st, 2nd or reverse gear and under 18 mph (not sure on this number though).

Yup yup, lots of miles, huge commute around the DC area.
I will give the Honda suggestion a try.
The VTM-4 switch does not work no matter what gear/stage/speed. I pulled the switch out and was able to find power going in, but not coming out. Its a dead switch. (used a multimeter)

Pin 2 is the power in.
Pin 1 is the switched power out.
It is a momentary switch.

N_Jay has a good point. Since it is a momentary switch, you'll have to press the switch while measuring with the meter. The best thing is to disconnect the wires from the switch and use to ohm meter, press the switch and measure two terminals, you should read close to zero.

Well $1k later, it is finished. I will post what they found when I pick it up on Monday.
