I use the regular 6' fiberglass/metal ladder in order to reach the roof...I always worry I will knock the ladder into the Pilot while moving it towards the back half of the roof or carrying it around to the other side to position it there.

Well, today I saw my neighbor's little ladder thingie that he uses to wash his teeny tiny little Isuzu SUV...

It's at Home Depot. This looks interesting..it's only about 2 feet high but the lateral movement it offers may make it a great find!

What do you think?

I can't even reach the roof let alone the dirt on it! I take it to the shop to get hand washed once every other week for $10. Can't beat it.

It depends where I am...

If I bring my Pilot to an actual car wash, then I just climb up the rear tires and hang onto the roof rails and I also open the doors and step on the seats while holding onto the roof rails (I take off my shoes, of course...)

When I'm at home, I have this 3 step ladder that I use when I load my Thule Evolution cargo box with... I also use it to clean the roof when washing at home...

For one thing though... I thought it was a pain in the A$$ to wash my former CRV b/c of it's size, but now with the Pilot... OMG... Like my wife says... IT'S SO BIG.... The Pilot that is... (get your minds outta the gutters guys & gals!!!)

LOL

Ummm... chowgirl & patrick... pictures not needed for this one... hehehe

haha red.....

i just hand-washed and polished my pilot for the first time this past weekend. i used a step ladder. the roof is tough. i use this extention rod that had a rag type thing on it to wash the roof.

for polishing, (waxing) i basically had to break it into quadrants and do front left, front right, rear left, and rear right and keep moving the step ladder

Hey... that's a good idea! I might just convert my golf ball retriever to do just that! Thanks Pilot Critter for the idea!

BTW - Pilot Critter... How LONG did it take you to wax your Pilot??? My CRV took me about 4 hours (3 coats)...

hey red. well, i did one coat, and the wash and wax together was about 3 hours. (i pushed pretty hard because i was losing daylight) however, that doesn't include wheels and tires, which i polished the next morning and shined up the black walls.

i use Nufinish, "the once a year car polish". i've used it for about 6 years and have been happy. water still beads in the early spring. i'll probably do it again this summer and then in the fall just for the hell of it. next year....once should do it.

Thanks Pilotcritter... I'm going to do my spring cleaning in a few weeks when I have my 6 day off stretch...

Anyways, after alot of research last year on finding the best wax in the market, I now use this product called Zainos... Car care pros and show cars enthusiats give Zainos very high regards...

Check this link:

Here are a few links of Car Wax Comparison Tests (please check out all links as they are very interesting!!!... Well... to me at least... )

They tested the wrong Meguire's in those tests..no Car Cleaner Wax. The Gold Class line is terrible.

Exactly which Zaino product is the best redn?? Where to buy?

Thanks! ;)

I got the following:

- ZFX™ Flash Cure Accelerator Additive (this is a must... coats of wax will cure in 1 hour instead of the regular 6+ hours per coat)

- Z-2 SHOW CAR POLISH FOR CLEAR COATED FINISHES

- Z-5 POLISH FOR SWIRL MARKS & FINE SCRATCHES

- Z-6 ULTRA CLEAN "GLOSS ENHANCER" SPRAY

I also recommend getting the claybar... I didn't get the Zainos claybar... Instead I just got the Mothers California Gold Claybar...

Goto to this link for more details in regards to each of the Zainos products that I got:

I don't think there are any stores out there that carries Zainos... You will have to purchase it online from Zaino Bros themselves... Here are the links:

US customers: http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc

Canada customer: http://www.zaino.ca/index.html

Just go to the Order Form link...

I either 1) open a door and step inside to reach the roof while holding onto the roof rack and step on rear bumper to reach back of roof or 2) if I'm not too lazy on the day I wash the Pilot, I stand on a folding metal chair to reach the roof and move the chair around the Pilot. There is no real easy way to wash and/or wax the roof.

The SUV that will probably never get it's roof washed is the new Infiniti QX-56. I think it's built on the same chassis as the Nissan Titan pickup. It's ungodly huge -- with the roof-rack rails, it's like 75 inches (190cm) tall.
