Downtown Camera at Queen west of Church is pretty good. They usually undercut their neighbour, the gigantic Henry's Camera (just east of Church), by a few bucks and you get less attitude than at Henry's.

Also you can try Vistek on Queen east of River St. It's a pro shop. I think they all have websites with prices listed. But they all know what they are talking about if you need advice. If you end up at Henry's ask for Raffi for good service.

IMHO, you can't go wrong with any of the Canon line. :o)

Well if you really want to knock $10 or $20 off the price, then go to Best Buy or Future Shop. But don't expect them to know anything about cameras or have much in the way of accessories.

We've bought at Henry's and Future Shop. Cheaper at F.S., and advice was just as good (and no attitude!) And you can bring it back if it doesn't work out.

We bought a Cannon PowerShotA60 last year and absolutely love it! It's only 2.0 megapixels but for standard 4x6 and 5x7 pictures - it's all you need. It's easy to use with just point and shoot option. I like the macro option - I've taken some incredible closeups of flowers. I'm not very thrilled with the zoom though - that's probably where higher megapixes would come in handy.

I keep it set at the highest resolution and with a 256 memory card can get about 240 pictures. We also use the movie feature - fun to email little clips to the family. I had a Cannon Sureshot for about 15 years and was glad I chose Cannon again. I plan to get a Cannon Digital Rebel within the next year or so but am waiting for the prices to come down a bit. We searched all over and found Walmart to have the best prices on both the cameras and the memory cards. Henry's, Future Shop, Blacks all have websites where you can compare prices and get info on the type of camera you want.

Good luck!

Hey bongel,

I guess it all depends on what you want from your camera. I have a Fuji F401. It's has a 2mp ccd but can make a 4 mp file. It actually works but not as crisp as a true 4 mp camera. It's point and click. Pretty bullet proof.

When I really want to take good quality pictures I still use my trusty Nikon FG film camera. I've started asking for CD only from the film lab. I have yet to find a reasonably priced comsumer grade digital camera that can match it's quality. I wanted to replace it with a digital camera but a comparable model would have cost $1500 or more.

I bought a Canon A80 at 2001 Audio Video on Dundas west of 427. With a little haggling, got it for 80 bucks less than Henry's and they threw in a set of batteries and charger.

I have a couple of peeves with my digital camera. I've lost a lot of shots because of the time it takes to take them...

And the viewfinder doesn't show the entire picture area.

I'm used to cropping tight in the viewfinder.

Mark, like you, I keep going back to my 35 mm camera.

Ya, that delay really bugs me too. I think it comes from having to allow the auto focus to work. A way around it on some cameras is to depress the shutter slightly. This sets the focus and exposure levels in advance, but then who wants to sit with their finger on the button. As well, sometimes you just don't have the opportunity to "be ready".

Just got my Nikon out. Wanted to take action pictures of our Golden Retrievers. Sure is quick!

My digital camera is perhaps the ultimate polaroid. But it sure isn't an action camera!

I'll keep using my Nikon until digitals can match it's flexibility, performance and quality AND be resonably priced. I think I'll be waiting a while.

I have photos---prints--that my grandfather made. I'm afraid that computers are a curse for me. Storing photos on my computer doesn't make sense to me. And burning them on a cd...generations from now they won't have any way to view them.

I can still enjoy the prints my grandfather made.

I find digital photography tempting. But I have to think carefully how I save my images!
