I drove off the lot with my new O4 with 3 miles on it and between 25 and 100 miles I experienced a sound like a tire going flat, thump, thump, thump, thump, thump, etc.
Tried to duplicated it on the same stretch of road and could not.
I experienced it the second time on a different smooth road and it sounded a little different but the duration was not as long.
Almost sounds like the exhaust pipe viberating against something.
Does anyone have info about this problem or experienced it.
The dealer has no info.

Welcome to HondaSUV.com.
I've never heard of this problem before. If you suspect the exhaust pipe, have you tried shaking it? Please MAKE SURE that you do it when the exhaust is NOT hot.
If you cannot re-create the problem, it definitely is not an easy problem detect.
By the way, I'm moving this thread to Clinical Rounds.

My dealer has the answer!!!!!!!!! It is a design factor that can't be cured.
With the rear windows down half way and the front windows up all the way starting at 40mph thru to 75 mph, my O4 Pilot vibrates to the point of rattling my teeth, I can't even see thru the rear view mirror, the ear pressure is unbearable, you can't even hear the radio, and it feels like both front tires are going flat.
The front passenger air bag even bounches inside its compartment.
Unreal!!!!!!!!!!!
And the dealer says "Sorry, that's the nature of the beast"
$100.00 reward for the first person with the cure!!!!!!!! :D

I find the windows just cannot be open if I am going 50 or higher. http://www.i2needgif.com/bump/ranting.gif Immediate earache! I wonder if this is true for other brands of SUVs...I don't "get it"- how could they have not tested for this?

It is true of almost all Station Wagon shapped cars, and most 4 door sedans.
It has been discussted to death on just about every forum.
Some have found window vent visors help, other say not.
When the rear windows are down at higher speeds, I find cracking the driver's window helps!

I just brought my 2004 Pilot EX in to the dealer here in Mpls/St. Paul. I had a vibration in the steering wheel at higher speeds and thumping sound which I could hear when the windows were rolled down. Turns out that one of my tires was not "perfectly round". They are replacing the tire. So, in a nutshell, I had a slight vibration in the steering wheel at 55mph and higher and when I rolled down the window, I could hear a "thumping". As I said, one of the tires was defective. They said this should be the fix. I pick it up today w/ that fixed, new chrome running boards, a wind deflecter and rear splash guards!

What most of you are talking about , windows open, buffeting noise at speed is a phenomenon known as a Helmholtz resonance, or "coke bottle effect" . It is based on the size of the cavity (cabin), size of the opening (window) and velocity. That's why opening other (front or rear) window makes a difference. Happens to any car-may be curable by one to those window fairings you can tack on if you don't mind the look. Good luck experimenting!
