Juz want to find out whether anyone knows the power outlet @ the back - whether it is a direct supply or muz the ignition key be inserted before there are power being supplied.
You see, most of the time with the tonneau cover, its kindda dark @ the boot and madam wants me to find some "light" source there. I saw some in the car accessories shop with 12V input (supposed to be for plugged into the cigrette lighter socket) but juz wonder - by the time we park the car, remove the keys, move to the back, open the boot door, without the keys in the igntion .... will there by light ?!?! :?:

Hi BigBertha,
You are right, it is quite dark under the cover. Might want to stick a light there as well.
I checked the online manual, http://www.honda.co.jp/manual/cr-v/2004/equipment/room03.html#accse but it does not say specifically. But it's quite hilarious when translated into English using Babelfish:
Accessory socket
Opening the cover, you use.
You use for removing the power source of the HONDA genuine electric product.
(Electric power consumption 120W [ 12 volts/bolts, you can use to 10 amperes ].)
- Please do not remove the power source of the electric product other than the HONDA genuine products.
It becomes cause of the damage of the battery failure and the accessory socket.
- In order to prevent the battery failure, please use when the engine has been applied.
- Please do not insert the cigarette lighter/writer. There is a possibility of becoming feverish.
- When using the accessory socket, in order to prevent the invasion of the foreign material, please close the cover.
But the above does seem to suggest that the engine need not necessarily be on when in use. However, I suspect you might need to have the key at ACC ("Accessory")?

hi,
Belive you need to keep the ignition on.
Why don't you tap the power from the existing overhead room light. So that you will automatic light up of the external light source whenever you open your cargo door.
You can also replace your existing overhead cargo room light with a 12V flourescent tube. This would light up your V like your house light.
The cost is only $12 + installation $5. It is a cheaper option.
Hi All,
You need to insert the key and turn it to ON to activate the power source behind. I would agree Paul's method to tap the power source and can also consider tapping the source from the rear light but not the centre room light.

I guess Babelfish does have its limitations - albeit it still does its job for word for word translation - perhaps with a pinch of salt.
Anyway, thanks for the feedback guys.
Paul - where can you get the installation done ? I was thinking of pro-rv ... since I have seen the lights you mentioned at their website. Any good "lobang" ? But I guess tapping from rear-end as mentioned by Alex seems more appropriate as you opened the back door - the light get activated as well ....
Thanks!

I also thought it was pretty dark in the rear compartment with the cargo-area cover, and came up with a solution that didn't require doing any wiring. I bought a small (single AA-cell) battery-operated light that turns on and off when you push on the lens, then velcro'd it underneath the cargo cover's crossbar. Now I have light down there whenever I need it!
not that it's going to help us here, but the new Vs in japan has an additional light in the boot area, where the wheel well hump is.
